Aerostich Suits vs. Tiger Angel

Did you already get the suit?

I have one, after doing a product review on one a couple of years ago. I was going to post it, but I can't find it on my hard drive.

Brief synopsis:

- It keeps out water *really* well. I had a friend shoot me with pressurized water from a garden hose for about 10 minutes. Not a drop made it past any of the zippers.

- The fit was good, although not *quite* what I was expecting from a custom suit. In all fairness, I had lost almost 20 pounds since first measuring myself.

- It's not made to fit over street clothes. This is why I don't wear it very often.

- It doesn't keep me very warm in cold weather. I rode from LA to SF in it, with only a turtleneck underneath to keep me warm. Textiles are better for cold temperatures.

- I've never crash tested it (knock on wood), but I'd imagine the protection is far better than textile. Especially *my* textile (pants).

- When I wear leather on the street, I ride more aggressively. That being said, I keep myself in check by wearing textiles.

- They allow decent ventilation, but are warmer than my textiles when it's hot out. Then again, after losing 20-30 pounds my textiles pants are looser than a veteran porn star.

It's a good suit, one that would do well when coupled with a warmer overcoat of sorts on longer trips in colder temps, while also more than adequate for the occasional trackday. I still opt for the versatility of textiles on most longer trips.

It doesn't zip all the way across the waist though, I think some trackdays and track schools require this.

If you prefer the protection of leather over the comfort and versatility of textiles (yet you don't want to completely give up that versatility), the Tiger Angel suit will probably work very well for you.

I have an Aerostich 1-pc. roadcrafter suit to commute 60 miles in this lousy weather. I've also owned some Darien pants, and rode both products for many thousands of miles.
There has got to be something better than 'stich.
After so many years producing this suit, you'd think those midwestern geniuses would design some pockets that are accessed logically and a zipper that more fully covers your collar without strangling yourself with a neckstrap. Also, they cut the thing like every rider eats steak and fries daily.
But to be fair, it does keep me dry and--for the most part--warm. And I think it would do me well in a crash (except that there is no back padding).
Go to Helimot in SJ and check out the Stadtler gear. I bet you'd look great and be better protected and drier than in that Aerostich stuff.

I totally agree....

I had the 'Stitch for years and love it to this day but want something different....

Im waiting for the new Alpinestar textile suit to come out and if its a flop, I'll no doubt get another 'Stich cuz I haven't found anything else that I like to match it....

I think the aerostich would be great if there was an optional neoprene turtleneck that you would attach to the suit to keep cold air out. Also maybe a zipper that was offset to the side of your torso instead of the middle of the torso. I wouldn't mind an integrated LED tail-light that I could put on my back, either... it would have to be wirelessly-controlled and battery operated.

Oooh i said battery operated

I have an Aerostich knock-off made by FirstGear with the off center zipper and let me just say when youre in an outhouse trying to relieve yourself urgently, its a bitch having to stand one way and aim the other way in a close quarter....

yes it is.....

the Aerostich is easier to go pee....

:laughing

well, let's say that the ease of getting on/off the aerostich in about 20seconds come in handy in other aspects too....

Im starting to regret selling mine after all the good times I had in the bathroom now....:cry

I commute on the bike and I just invested in a 'stitch.

And I like it. A lot!!

Got my 'Stich on ebay, SCORE

i was worried about the fit, but it is just right.
rode from mendocino to death valley in pretty nasty weather, and i did have a damp spot on my leg, from the zipper, but i never water proofed it. they are great.
if you can get a standard size, you might look on ebay or craigslist
mine was $450

mendo

Hmm...$450 huh? Was it new? I am looking at this guys ten year old model and he wants $400 for it. I wonder what they cost 10 years ago. With the alterations he had done this suit would cost $842 now, but then again...it's ten years old. I've heard nothing but good things about Aerostich.

I wouldn't pay $400 for a 10year old suit....

I got mine in 93 for $675 with tailoring....

While the concepts are the same, there is some minor improvements from the old suits which means a lot more as a whole today....

Mine started to get weathered from every day use in about 3 years which no longer had its water resistance nor able to keep the wind out as well as when new and I can't imagine how worn out it is now after 10years...

From the looks of the modern Aerostich, it looks a lot more sturdy in quality with still the excellent finish....

AEROSTITCH ALL THE WAY - THAT TIGERS ANGEL LOOKS OK BUT AS A AEROSTICH ROADCRAFTER WEARER FOR 2 YEARS NOW I KNOW THAT IT IS INCREDIBLE - TOUGH, DRY, EASY ON AND OFF. THEY ARE ALSO ON SALE RIGHT NOW FOR ABOUT $780 - STILL NEED THE BACK AND HIP PADS BUT YOU COULD GET ONE FOR UNDER A GRAND....

I would not pay 400$ for an old suit. They wear out over time especially if the guy didn't take care of it or wash it correctly. They might have improved their Goretex fabric or seam sealing over the years, I'm not sure... But just pay the 700$ and you will be a HAPPY MAN.

I've had mine for about 2 years now and I wear it everyday, can't you see it hanging behind me in my cubicle right now? :teeth

Aerostich sucks.
Buy something else.

:twofinger I just don't want you guys drive up the price.
