Been looking online for a replacement for the one that is currently on my FZR. It's apparently the wrong model for the bike and as such doesn't report correctly. I'm looking for a replacement for it but am kinda overwhelmed with all the options.
Has anyone found something that they love? I would prefer digital but will take any recommendations.

Attached is what is currently on.

If your Vapor reads out the wrong speed then you probably just need to set the wheel circumference. If it's totally wrong, like not even related to your actual speed, you might need to move the pickup or the magnet for a more reliable signal.

I had some problems with the Vapor on my Transalp, but invalid speed readout was not one of them.

Don't worry about it, the cop will tell you how fast you were going after he pulls you over.

Get the Trail Tech Voyager. It has GPS in addition to a wheel sensor if you decide to use it. That'll give you pretty good accuracy and the digital display that you want.

I'd highly recommend keeping the Vapor. Best bang for your buck cost/benefit as far as aftermarket gauges. Good customer support as well. I'd also echo the sentiment that if it's just reading the wrong speed, you probably just need to calibrate it, very easy to do. The Trail Tech website has downloadable instructions for free.

For most Trail Tech dashboards, the correct kit has to do with the tachometer pick up and the temperature gauge, not the speedo. The speedo is pretty much universal. You just mount the magnet & pick-up in an appropriate spot.

If you've got a lot of dough to throw around, Kosos are supposed to be pretty awesome.

Acewells also look pretty high quality, but I think the faces are actually pretty small & may take some getting used to.

I have the Vapor on my DR650 and its ok. The speed is spot on with the my GPS if you can get the wheel number right.

My biggest gripe with the Vapor is the trip meter reset, when I use a rollchart the press the left and center button is so clumsy to do sometimes I need to stop and do it. If you're not using a rollchart it great.

On my ZR7 I have a bicycle computer installed, I forgot which one but it was one of the nice ones. Only problem is the backlight doesn't stay on at night but it very accurate. I think the brand was Sigma.

KOSO on the RZ500 has been fantastic. Highly recommended product.:thumbup

Update: I am going to keep the Vapor (for now) I got everything set except the speedometer is still reading wrong. It keeps telling me that I'm cruising at ~450mph and pass people doing ~564 :teeth I altered the wheel size in the settings and it keeps reverting back to the previous setting. It's on wired power not battery so I might change the battery and see if that fixes the issue. If that fails, Ill have to adjust the magnet/pickup. If all fails, ill just have the caged wife next to me on the freeway and mark the conversion and just run with it.

Replace the battery, make sure the Vapor is getting power from a source that only gets power after the ignition is switched to on. Otherwise, the backlight will not turn off. It won't kill your battery, but I tend to think it draws unnecessary attention to your bike when parked at night.

If you run on the Vapor's battery alone, the backlight turns off after 10 min or so. This is annoying when riding at night.

Vapors usually hold on to their settings even when the battery dies. I had to replace my battery many times, but don't remember ever having to redo the settings.

I think there's a factory reset button on the back. You may want to try a factory reset, then redo all the settings. Then see if that does anything.

There's not much to do as far as adjusting the magnet & pick up. If the magnet goes past the pickup appropriately, there's not much else to do. There's not more than one magnet on your brake rotor or wherever it is you attached the magnet, is there? Maybe check that?

If all that fails, seriously, call their customer support. They're not a huge outfit. I don't think it's very difficult to get ahold of a human being. They can help you troubleshoot. Plus, if the unit is defective, they probably won't send you a new one for free (although they did for me once), but there's a chance they will offer you a head unit at discount). At the VERY least, they'll let you order a replacement head unit (which is a discount from their kits because it won't include the sensors, wires, etc).

I hit the reset button but it still reverted back. Tomorrow is my day off and I'm gonna tinker and call Vapor if I cant get it to work. Thanks for all the info!

If the internal coin battery is dead it won't work right. I would replace that. Sometimes a low battery will make it lose its mind entirely. Mine gained ~30000 miles in an hour once and I had to reset the odometer with the secret code.

Put a new battery in and same result.
Called Trail tech... fixed in 5 seconds.

It was some kind of error code that is pretty common apparently and now its right as rain.

Glad you got the issue resolved. When you first posted the thread I was going to recommend the Vapor...

I put one on my DRZ400S that I converted to supermoto and thought it was a great little unit. I even called their customer support and got them to give me the procedure to change the ODO because I wanted it to reflect actual total miles...:cool

Yeah, I've got that code written in my manual somewhere. I guess for some legal reason, they can't include that info any more. I think they generally politely ask forums to take it down too if it's posted.

That is just the F14's cruising speed. You really gotta sweep the wings back to pass them...

*pay no attention to the clutch hand.....

Mine is hooked up directly to the battery and I've never had problem with it. People see my display on when I leave the bike and try to remind me about it but I tell them thats normal.

The tuck and weave I can do, its the sudden stops on 80 that tend to throw me off!

I sometimes take my bike places I can't keep a direct eye on it. Places where it might be parked on the street at night for a couple hours or so. I really don't want my dashboard advertising itself.

I think most bike thefts are targeted. But sometimes your bike might just look like a shadow. With the Vapor always on, it looks like a target.
