Almost half of the wealthy Chinese want to leave China

anyone there who have the means will try to have a backup plan in place. in case the reds crack down.

US, AUS, CAN, etc. etc.

They want to come to Walnut Creek or the Peninsula to send their one kid to high school here.

Asians are well represented in downtown Vancouver from what I saw this past weekend .And looks like they're exporting their hottest samples.

^^^^ha! some truth in that!
I work with a Chinese woman who not only did it, but now her sister is here with the daughter at Las Lomas. I can;t even understand how they get away with it, visa-wise. No interest in being citizens; their English skills never improve. Just utter and complete takers. I like her (my office-mate) but I have to keep myself from veering toward dark thoughts when I think about all those who truly want to become Americans and participate in this democracy.

They're already here. Take a stroll down USF around Golden Gate Gate, Turk and Masonic. Bimmers, Benzos, and Audi's all day.

These are rich mainlanders btw. Not to be confused with the low income c-town residents or the long time cantonese of the Sunset and Richmond districts.

Been that way since before Hong Kong went under Chinese control being in the Commonwealth and all. It's also easier to get to the US from Canada than it is from China (according to a couple of China born co-workers who swear their from Canada).

Don't we keep hearing that the 1% here are going to leave, to escape socialism and lack of economic opportunities for the already wealthy and such?

that's interesting info
interesting, why that area only BTW? That's just the university. Or is it because of the quiet area nearby the university (betw. Geary and Turk)
if so many are there that means that downtown should be full of the same, no? Just like SFGate has been reporting of who's buying the new condos..

Probably a much higher percentage for the poor.

After being there a week; I couldn't wait to leave.

I'm not so sure if commonwealth connections are needed. In California I worked with a Pakistani, sounding 100% the part, who claimed to be Canadian. He used Canada as a doorway into the US by getting a NAFTA TN visa

I married into their community. If they move into the right area, they don't need to learn English. All the services they need, can be had in their native tongue. They seem to be taking over my hood. Every house on my street that's sold on the last 5 years has gone to an Asian family. The old white norm, is not the norm anymore in the Bay Area.

I'm always confused as to why Americans take umbrage when an immigrant has no interest in becoming a citizen :confused

I think it's more to do with them coming here and trying to push or force their ways. Kind of a reverse gentification. I have no problem with people coming to the US. It's just when they expect us to accommodate then and have us work around their needs because they refuse to adapt is when I have a problem.
