i need to decide today and order it...help me out...

i had the santa monica dainese jacket b4 but EMT cut em...

The Dianese guy is wearing the wrong size.

I've worn a A* TZ-1 for a few years now and the quality isn't quite there (zippers breaking apart, sewing coming off, etc. etc.).

I've tried a few Dainese jackets before and the build/quality on them is amazing. I looked at the Santa Monica model and it was a very nice fit on me (but the price at 699 wasn't in my budget).

My vote goes for Dainese. IMO however, you should look into RS Taichi gear (which I wear now). Extremely comfortable and made especially well for hot weather.

i checked out rs- taichi already...i wanted their suit but it was 1800..wohow to much for my pocket...im saving up for that...but for now i need a leather jacket...i had the santa monica but EMT just went through em like a paper...i guess i have to go with dainese again...

i also agree with 'Just J', my first jacket was an A* and the zipper broke but i was able to repair it. i sold that jacket and bought a Dainese which is a better quality and holds up better. so now all my riding gear are Dainese!!

Personally I'd go with the A*. There's more white on it, so you won't burn up as fast in the hot summer sun, and A* actually fits me better. Dainese jackets are too wide for me.

IMO get the one that fits better

The one that fits you better

Yup. Note, in my experience, Dainese is cut more for a thinner frame than other makes. I have two Dainese jackets in size 50, both are very, very nice quality, and both couldn't be any slimmer or they would not fit me. Am I'm preying mantis skinny. I couldn't imagine either of them fitting anybody stocky or moderately 'big'.

You might also find that the Dainese is much lighter than the A*. It might vary a little depending on the models, but my hubs definitely noticed a difference when he went from the A* TZ-1.

5 crashes and going on my A*s but the gloves didn't fare to well and they were GP pros very dissapointing. One was right at 90 to 100 all I had to replace was the ass leather. not a single seem break.

They make jackets too, same price or lower than the MX-1

I bought my RS Taichi for 529 shipped (I'll get you the link later). Full perforation and comes with a HD inner liner for colder days.

I haven't had quality problems with my A*, which I crash tested at low speed. I think dollar for dollar, I got more features standard with the A* too, such as the removable liner.

Having said that, my Dainese is very nice, and appears to be better built.

But my point is not to trash the A* as a crappy jacket. It is a good buy for reasonable protection at a fair price. If you can afford better, go for the Dainese.

You mentioned the two jackets were the same price, but you should compare features too.

I recently bought Dainese leather jacket & pants, and -- wow -- the quality & comfort & fit is amazing. And just last week I picked up a cool-looking textile jacket that's perfect for my scooter.

Most of the Dainese stuff is made in Eastern Europe or Tunisia, which jives perfectly with my personal boycott of things Made in China (whenever possible).

Their stuff isn't the cheapest, and their sizing is cut more for a Euro fit rather than Americans born & raised in Indiana, but you won't be disappointed if you can overcome those hurdles...
