Alternative to Pit-Bull moto stands

The rear tire hits the ground when I lift the front (motorcycle on center stand). Fork supports are at their lowest setting.

I re-read my post and I didn't make it clear that I was using the Pit-Bull on the front.

Dan

The instructions for every front stand i've ever seen say not to lift the front without lifting the rear on a stand first. Don't think center stand counts.

Pit-Bull is incredibly strong, high quality, made in the USA and will last for ever. However personally, I feel they are heavy and the handle design takes up too much space in the truck while going to trackdays.

Is there any other brand that is as good a quality with differnt design? I see the MotoGP paddock uses some light weight stand. Are they made of unobtainium?

Quality is the key.. not too worried about the price since stands are mostly a lifetime purchase.
any recommendations?

They are heavy because they are made well. You can get them with removable handles. There, both your problems are solved.

vortex stands. they nest together to save room in the van and weigh very little. the front stand needs to be greased up but the rear stand is fantastic.

Well, with the FJR there are no spools and I have not seen where anyone has ever used a rear stand (on any shaft driven sports tourer).

There should be no issue in using a front stand as long as it is adjustable enough so the rear tire stays above the floor (while on the center stand).

Thanks Ananth.

The pit-bull tire wedge sure looks nifty, I just use a piece of wood that perfectly lines up my rear with the axle.

Those rear stands do look pretty good. Do you have one? Is the quality comparable to Pit-Bull?

pit-bull makes a even 'heavier' duty version stand for big fat bikes.

been using their stand forever. like a vanson jacket you buy a used one for less $$ and it will still last forever.

the only design change they should make is a new adjustment method. something you don't have to use an 19mm wrench and marks on the stand to use on multiple bikes.

LighTech has a bunch of options that seem to be made well enough. they are at least as good as the Vortex stand. their cheapest lightest option is only 6.6lbs http://www.motosport.com/lightech-rear-paddock-stand-club. their more expensive GP stand even comes in a lightweight version, but i cant find it for sale in the US.

I have the spooled rear stand (again got free with one of my bike purchases) and I like it better than my pitbull.

The handle is way shorter, yet it's easier to lift the bike than with a pitbull. I think due to the geometry, you get more leverage even with the shorter handle.

It's definitely lighter than the pitbull also. And doesn't feel ridiculously overengineered in the context of a 450lb track bike.

this one kinda looks like a Graves clone. structure seems good and at 11lbs its def lighter than the Pitbull. this is tempting.

HAHA I was going to mention that. I have one, it's great quality and lightweight and doesn't cost much.

$40 at Harbor Freight. :thumbup

Those HF stands look decent. Might have to get one to try.

While most are looking/talking about rear stands, I have the Woodcraft front triple stand. Not terribly heavy, easy to adjust, and they have different pins for different head tubes for a solid fit. Super easy to operate solo.

Is hiking with motorcycle stands a thing now? I don't work out terribly often, but even I can manage to carry a Pit Bull stand from one end of the garage to the other. Or even all the way out to the truck if necessary! This fascination with low-budget, light-weight stands escapes me...

Says a Ducati owner :rofl:rofl

i like pitbull but i've heard a lot of people praise Moto-D stands - price point is pretty good and never heard of an issue with them. I need a new rear stand - i may give moto d a shot over pitbull

I have a Pit-Bull for my FJR and the one thing I don't like is enough adjustability in height. I have it at it's lowest setting and the rear tire hits the ground and cannot be rotated. Also, the features that capture the fork bottoms are too close to the ABS sensor for my comfort. I remove those before lifting.

This works fine if I remove the rear wheel first but not if I just want the front lifted.

I see those that are shown here don't have any adjustability at all, not good (in my case).

I think I saw the plans on FJR something or other site

Not something I would use at the track, but I had both wheels off the bike, with NO drama. I'll dig up the plans for you if you like. It cost me about 45 bucks, plus a floor jack, 2 tie downs, one bungee to hold the center stand tight, and 20 minutes of assembly. It all folds up nicely, too and lays flat agains the garage wall.
