Why The Amazon-Hertz Deal Worries Dealerships
CNBC YouTube Channel

Hertz Car Sales now available at Amazon Autos
Hertz Certified used cars, now where you shop for everything else.

Now available in Dallas (Bedford), Houston, Los Angeles (Inglewood, Riverside, Norwalk, Torrance), and Seattle.
More locations coming soon.

For all intent and purposes; large rental car agencies ARE dealerships, just with a different sales model. Their profitability comes from the sales of (used) autos. They purchase the vehicles new for somewhere around 40 points (40%) below wholesale numbers. The model is insane.

a buddy of mine just bought a 2021 Nissan Versa with 35K on the clock for 18 grand, would been 14 if he didn't have to finance part of it.
The hertz amazon thing won't really change it much for the customer but it will put people that work in rental agency dealerships out of a job.

There are more than a few well reported instances of hertz royally screwing up sales paperwork, and rental paperwork... Like people getting arrested for stealing a car they bought from Hertz or something to that effect. Hertz made an oopsie and suffered approximately zero consequence.

I'm reluctant to make such a huge purchase completely online anyway, add hertz to the scenario and I'm a pretty firm nnnnnnnnnOPE

Shift was a shit company

thanks for telling me now, I should have asked on barf about it sooner!!! (Like, bundled with an under-hood sound-deadening blanked question or something)

I think there definitely is an allure to no-haggle + online buying, where there is no seller to try something shifty: either screw with the pricing, add-ons, or, hide your DL. (now, whether it should be Amazon & Hertz, that's another question--but it looks like your vote is, it should not be other companies, either.)

Did you have the heart to tell him that's how much they cost new?

well no but for the price he got a 5 year bumper to bumper warranty. He got it from Enterprise. He was gonna get a Corolla but it was another 5 grand and had higher miles. He had to get a new vehicle because his 2013 Ranger got rear ended. He waited to the last day he had to turn in the rental that the insurance company gave him which was from Enterprise. So he drove to the lot knowing he had to get a car that day.

Uhg, I hate situations like that. Hopefully the newer nissan cvts are better.

It's a direct consumer sale out of AMZN. Alot of the rental companies dump their fleet(s) @manehim, adessa, etc. wholesale auctions,

the newer nissan cvts
At that size and power of car, sure a manual stick would actually be advantageous

But then you'd have to look up the articles "which manufacturer still sells manual?!?!" (Hint, VW Mazda, not sure about Nissan, nor BMW)

This is accurate.

Naw- the Hertz paperwork you have to read carefully and closely. It said, "You get five year old two bumpers".
