We are srsly in the market for an interface box for streaming so I can cancel premium cable. Does this only pick up Amazon Prime stuff or can you pick up Netflix, Hulu etc etc etc???

Cuss at it. It will correct you. :laughing I told it fuck you and it said something akin to "we dont speak that way."

I went with a Roku box as my interface. It's not as cheap but it does do 4k and HDR video. I push it through my receiver so I get dolby over hdmi as well.

and I've downgraded my cable to the absolute cheapest option (free with my internet package) I can login to the local channel apps (cnn, nbc, cbs, etc) that are in the Roku marketplace (free) and watch what they are airing in HD for free. Most of the apps are in their infancy and are decent but they do have some issues (election coverage was lagged and stalled often, I assume they didn't have bandwidth to support).

Spend the extra few bucks for the full Fire TV box instead of the Fire Stick.

more RAM, snappier, etc.

Yes, as usual, I have tried to avoid the learning curve until everything is easy but the Uverse bill is just killing me. They are trying to get everyone to install a DirecTV dish for television to free up so called fibre optic service for net. I have to reluctantly put my foot down and learn something....First world geezer woes... Thx!

I was an early cord cutter since I couldn't justify a $250 a month shitertainment bill. If I wanted to I could keep my total expenditure to under $100, which includes an $80 internet bill.

BUT, the wife has shows she likes to watch so we rent them at $2.99 a pop. The good is there are only like 16 weeks out of the year where we run up the monthly shitertainment spend. The rest of the year is all out of Hulu (@$10), Netflix (@$10) and Amazon Prime (@$10) monthly.

Ms. BA is a Longmire freak. She got it so bad that we are apparently going to Wyoming next summer so she can make goo-goo eyes at Walt during Longmire days. I'd be jealous but we're old. Anyway, it's on Netflix and she already has a Amazon Prime account so it's kinda covered.

so ive been looking at these as well and around here theres a boatload of people selling them with the Kodi software on them. is that something i should be leery of or can someone explain what the hell it is. im kind of a behind the curve tech user and dont have anyone here in vegas to really ask about this stuff.

leery of, no.

Mr5 can explain better then I but Kodi is just a streaming platform. Most people use it to "illegally" stream content

And it's slow as hell when using the FireStick over Wifi.

I may go back to my hardwire Roku or get the hardwire Fire TV.

One cool thing with the Fire TV and other streaming devices excluding the Roku, is you can play games with groups.

They are fun and collaborative. They arent supported on Roku and no plans to either .

Hey, speaking of Dubbington, if I cancel the premium channels, will I still get CSN to watch Dub games? I am Uverse and I'm getting a Comcast channel, which I already don't even understand..I guess I'd lose NFL network to be sure....

You'd replace NFL Network with the Roku Channel - NFL.

I do not know if CSN has a channel but Comcast has the xfinity app on Roku which might carry it.

Yeah that sounds logical.

I have another question for the teevee knowldege base here:

In our current configuration of Uverse tuner to tv: is there any reason I cannot split the signal coming out of the Uverse box to run a second teevee in another room? Ms. BA wants teevee in her new sewing room (my boy's former bedroom) and we don't need another cable tuner. Do those bastards somehow know if I am hooking more than one teevee to their signal? Some signal power dropoff or such consideration?

Sure you can split off as many times as you would like. I would do it post router if you're on the same service (internet and cable in 1 line) since every split weakens the signal (in the old analog days it did, I assume it holds true in the digital world)

can your tv decode the digital signal is the next question. If not, you will need a box (STB) at that location.
