Little behind the scene tidbit on gags like this.

I can't say about this specifically, but in other ones, they would build the structure (the rail car in this case) out of balsa wood. Which blows up nicely and carries far less risk. Having never encountered balsa bigger than a toy glider, its hard to imagine that much of it. But, there you go. Blowing up a balsa box is like blowing up a styrofoam one. That explosive is certainly dangerous, but that stunt can be done "safely".
 
I missed my turn, went long, and got sucked over the edge.
Honda 90 three wheeler, high gear, high range, throttle pegged, fully committed, off an outside turn/cliff, totaled the borrowed bike.
