Those excellent graphics are of a double row radial aircraft engine. Radial engines have a master connecting rod, to which all the other connecting rods in that row (bank) are attached. The R-4360 (4360 cu in) has four rows of cylinders!

Wasn't that engine nicknamed the "corn cob"? It was used in the B-36, among others. If I remember correctly.
