Any BARFer ever ordered the KFC / Popeyes Turkey

Love the nostalgic photo! Brought back some family memories.

]Is your house deemed to small for the crowd or something?[/B]

Here we have family living close by so we agreed that we do Christmas, my sister in law does Thanksgiving and the mother of my son in law, who has a pool, does Easter and summer parties.

Usually 10-15 people as some of the guests have smaller homes.

No. My house is not LARGE, but it's a decent sized 3/2 home. My kitchen is waaay nicer/larger than hers, she is just very controlling.

WoodsChic- What a great photo!!!

Ugh.

I'd just pick a Holiday and claim it.

That is a great photo from WoodsChick.

What an inventive Mom and seemingly with a great sense of humor.

I've had deep fried chickens and they were great. I ordered one from KFC a couple years ago. It was expensive and dry but it tasted good. It was too dry though. Usually fried turkeys should be moist and juicy.

What's with the cheap frozen turkeys this week after all of the hype about turkey shortage and expensive prices forecast?

Seems like they're trying to sell them all off then will charge $$$$ as we get closer to Thanksgiving because of a 'shortage'. They pulled that last year.

I'm planning on splitting my turkey, brining it then smoking it at 225 on the pellet smoker. Tried smoking it whole last year and it took too long, so trying something different this year.

Who's got turkey?

I have been shopping for my bird portion since Quincy rally, when I heard about the shortage.
Nothing in the small mountain grocery stores, Chester, Arcata, or bigger Eureka safeway. Cloverdale, tried three in Vacaville, Safeway, Luckeys, and Nugget, no joy.

Morro Bay scores with Spencers, haven't seen Albertsons in MB yet.
Don't know if frozen turkey has been held back until Nov. everywhere, but it finally showed in Nov. here.
$2.99 a lb.

one year, we had a turkey cooked in the Chinese Roasted Duck method. so yummy. all the flavor without the grease! (also yummy):party

I saw a cool recipe where you break down the turkey before roasting it you can roast the breast boneless and pull it earlier than the dark meat so every cut is perfectly cooked and it cooks in like 30-40 min. I'm going to try it on Sunday with a chicken.

Interestingly they do it skin side down the entire cook.

Down in Fresno, Vons (sister to Safeway) had Turkeys for about $0.50/lb with $25 purchase of other items. Save Mart had turkey for $0.55/lb with a $50 purchase.

$1.79 a lbs at Safeway and $10 a bird (max 12 lbs) if you spend $25 at the store.

I meant turkeys not chicken. I don't know how that happened.

Ok, now I see the big bump in prices.
I don't have much room in my freezer, no room for a full bird, have been looking for a ham sized packaged breast.

Past months I have found sliced turkey and ground turkey, cold cuts deli section, nothing bigger.
Lucky's had a smoked breast @ $11.99 lb, Spencers had smoked & cooked one for $13.99 lb. I dropped these into my cart without checking the price.
