Any stories from the heavy LEO presence (Hwy 35/Hwy 84) today?

It's got to be a crackdown. I took a "40 in a 25" on Pescadero Road. The was at the end of the 25 zone where it turns to 45 ... I was completely backed off passing the houses etc, just picked it up a little at the end. Two CHP, hidden in a private driveway (I saw them again on my return trip). The officer stated "complaints from locals". Since when does the CHP handle local complaints?

Good to know...been enjoying pescadero a lot recently....

I got about 10 head taps from riders going the other direction as me on pescadero yesterday. Sure enough, there were 2 CHP hiding in the 25 mph section.

It was much better last week on Thurs & Fri during the day. It was almost completely empty. :ride

seems like they were all out near Alices. Out in the East Bay I didn't see any LEOS except some OPD responding to a domestic call all the way down Grizzly Peak/Skyline/Redwood, which is pretty rare

At first I was going to gloat about my fabulous ride this weekend where the LEOs were not, but then I'd have to say where that was, and then they'd be there. So.. umm.. nevermind. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Since 1929

Oh that's perfectly obvious (last line), you must be a lawyer.

"The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is a law enforcement agency of the U.S. state of California. The CHP has patrol jurisdiction over all California highways and also acts as the state police.
The California State Legislature created the California Highway Patrol as a section of the Division of Motor Vehicles in the Department of Public Works, with legislation signed by Governor C. C. Young on August 14, 1929. Governor Earl Warren made it a separate Department in 1947. The CHP gradually assumed greater responsibility beyond the enforcement of the State Vehicle Act and eventually merged with the California State Police in 1995.[3]
The CHP provides many services, including; protection of state buildings and facilities (most notably the California State Capitol), bodyguarding of state officials, conducting criminal investigations, and assisting local law enforcement agencies."

Cops were in effect yesterday. Me and some friends did the Berryessa run and saw more than the usual # of CHP. Saw one guy going when we were going up the hill from the Pope valley store. I don't ever remembering seeing a Leo there (if there wasn't a wreck)

No excuse, I never got a CHP to sit in in my neighborhood for speeders... the CHP is primarily responsible for highways, everyone knows that.

... Jeff
I am sorry, but I responded to your statement.

Now, you are referring to Pescadero Creek Road, correct? I may have missed something, but that road does not appear to be part of any incorporated city. In which case, it is the CHP's responsibility. In addition, cities actually give road responsibility to the CHP, so even if it was in an incorporated city, it still could be CHP territory. Another little fact, the CHP jurisdiction extends past the road on both side.

BARF quiz: How far does CHP jurisdiction extend beyond the actual highway? No cops, please. :teeth

Crash on Pescadero and see who writes the report.

Its not the California Freeway Patrol.

Look I probably shouldn't have reacted so sharply, I apologize, I knew you were a patrolman. I am just not real happy with what's going on in the Santa Cruz mountains these days.

You're talking to a 25 year veteran that had never been sited for speeding on a motorcycle in his life (only once in car, Texas 1976). In the past six months I've taken "two" tickets when I don't feel I was even pushing it. Both 15 mph over. There was a day when no one would even blink at those speeds out there.

CHP keeps saying nothings changed but that's not my experience.

I feel like boycotting those hills completely, the kicker is, it's my backyard.

The inexperienced squids who crash are the enforcement target, avoid the weekends to keep from getting caught in the wrong place at the wrong (speed).

I won't bat an eye at a 1200GS type bombing down any road, but I'll stop tucked plate GSXZZRR1K, sneaker wearing, back protector over the tshirt all day long. Some car cops don't see the difference, so tread carefully.

All wrong. I always see, "geared up to the maximum riders" getting pulled over for speeding every sunny weekend! At least three or four and that's because they are speeding. It is heavily enforced from this weekend through June, July and August. Law enforcement is scattered all through out the Santa Cruz hills.

Ride safe. :)

I don't work the hills. All I have to pick from are the urban jungle squids of the east bay, and about a mile of Grizzly Peak.

I appreciate the sentiment, I have never subscribed to fender eliminators or pipes, gear is obvious. It's served me well until now ... Even the boy racer look is just asking for it.

Maybe I'll retire into a GS ...

Oh, sweet! Moto ChP really seem to feel the same way and give the " experienced lone wolfs" a break as do those CHP who ride Motos in their off time. Thank you for that.:thumbup

I don't have a story, I just want to say that, to anybody in my neck of the woods, afternoon CHP presence on Southbound (going to Orinda) SP Dam Rd, near Valley View. Yesterday, the officer had his car hidden and he was standing in the shoulder with his Lidar gun (I guess!? radar, I dunno) pointed north while the chase car was ahead by about a quarter mile. This is the second or third time in the last week or so. I did the helmet tap for a bike (I was headed northbound) but I don't know if it registered. I hate to give away the truth, but there are more speeders going that way in the morning and vice versa...they are focusing on the wrong side of the road. It's my commute for the last six years so....

Stop riding during peak hours.... wake up earlier and have your fun then. I left at 6.30am heading to San Francisco from Santa Cruz through 9 and 35. Didn't have to pass 1 car, and the roads were clear as can be.... Plus, you get the rest of the day for other business :2cents

Please. Shut up. Nobody needs to be riding up there early. Too cold and wet. Stay in your warm beds.
