Anybody own a Honda Ridgeline for hauling bikes?

I'll be the first to admit, it's pretty ugly. The avalance is in it's own category of ugly though.. Not quite Aztec ugly.

The ridgeline hits many points for people like me. Someone who drives the vehicle daily, but does not want the drawback of driving a truck _all_the_time--meaning small cab size. Someone who values a proper 4-door, but does not want the length of a quad cab full size truck. Someone who wants a truck, but still want to retain a hidden lockable trunk.

I doubt anyone who has the the absolute needs of a truck will ever look at a ridgeline.

I like them because I meet all criterias above. I don't need a truck bed all the time, but it's nice to have in order to haul bikes. I have a baby, and putting in a rear baby seat is a must--as is a trunk.

Best of all, they are super cheap and from research, reliability is up there!

I'll let him answer...

A few issues with them...Rob?

Transmission is of course a weak point on those. Try to carry and/or tow a lot with one, and you'll blow it up in short order.

As much as I like new/newer cars, I'd have to say avoid the 2009 and up model with the J35Z series engine. Honda has been having a lot of issues with their V6s with VCM (cylinder deactivation). Oil burning, plug fouling, valve fouling...all as early as 30k miles. Honda got slapped with (and lost) a class action suit over it all. They issued a 8yr/unlimited mile warranty extension on the recent V6 VCM equipped vehicles...all except the Ridgeline for some reason. Guess not enough Ridgeline owners got in on the class. But make no mistake about it...the engine in the Ridgeline is just as prime to have a problem as any Pilot, Odyssey, or Accord.

If I was buying a truck I'd buy a truck. Body on frame, RWD or 4WD (AWD maybe, but not FWD biased AWD).

While it's ugly, the Avalanche seems like a much better choice. Otherwise, you may just consider a car or minivan with a trailer.
