Anyone do a coast to coast banzai run?

Hell, if you're gonna go nuts, aim to do it in a bit over 4 days (100 hours). 35 people have done it in the past two years... not sure if that counts as "lately."

35 crazy motos I would like to meet. :wow

And the guy on the.ninja 250 :twofinger:rofl

I'm in.

Looking at dates in late July or early August.

Gonna have to get a supplemental tank if I wanna be able to bang it out in 100 hrs.

I saw a pretty cool video where someone recorded a long trip and sped it up real fast. I'd be cool to GoPro the entire run and zoom it into a ten minute YouTube.

You can put longer videos on youtube now... last one I did was 22 minutes. And if you record one frame every 10 seconds that will translate to a 20-minute video at 30 fps.

Of course your head will be spinning after you watch it. :laughing

A thread over on the FJRForum just was revived the other day on a really nice aux tank/platform build. If my wife didn't like to hop onboard so much, I'd have one built by now. I think it was originally a 2nd Gen build but the guy fabricates anything so I can't imagine him not doing the best year of FJR made! :laughing

My daughter is in Omaha and my brother is in Brooklyn. Might be a perfect fit to ride to Omaha for a meal and a nap, then Brooklyn for a meal nap n shower, then turn around and go see my daughter again. Or I could turn south from Brooklyn, run the coast for a while then turn right to come home.

Decisions, decisions.

Hrmm.. depending on when Kurt does Europe this year and how far South you want to run before turning right to head West I might be interested in doing the run West with you :)

I'll be in Maryland (right outside of DC) by then with a place for you to catch up on some sleep, and do any needed repairs.

Grant thanks for the offer.

Todd we can talk.

In looking at the Ironbutt listings, all those guys doing 50CCs are taking the southern route. Makes sense. San Diego to Jacksonville is around 2300 miles, while San Francisco to New York is 3000 miles.

I wouldn't be doing this for a certificate from the Ironbutt guys. But now I feel like a real challenge would be SF to NY to SF in 4+ days. I think I can do it.

You're crazy, and I mean that in a good way. I admire the drive and completely understand the thought behind it being more about the ride than the destination. Do it! :thumbup

You will have great fun driving on the slab on the highways and see views such as MacDonalds, Chevrons and Dennys.

Don't forget the churches, fireworks depots and adult superstores!:party

I'm thinking that my next ride might be a 3,000 in 3 days. All on I-80. Why not, eh? The problem is that once I get there, I'm going to want to play for a while.

I've done a few.

1667 miles in 21:45 and 1715 miles in 22:18. (and no I never got pulled over)

My FJR is set up perfectly for me. Custom seat, bar raisers, bigger screen. I've never been uncomfortable on it and no "monkey butt."

What I don't have is an extra fuel cell, so I have to stop for gas every 200-220 miles. I got crappy gas mileage on my last banzai run.

Doubt I'd go, (hard ta get foe dayz off, and I don't fancy slab'in much) but one thang that might help yer range is to run a 190/55 rear. I run 'em (to raise the rear, and help the bike steer) but it also gives you "taller" gearing. :thumbup
I know you can get a PRII in 190/55, not sure 'bout the other manufacturers?

This would be fun and something I've been thinking about for the summer but I would rather take a more interesting route vs a straight line. Slabbing wears on me but if the road is interesting the only thing keeping me off the road is my gas tank.

Get your Depends, a GoPro, and charge. :laughing

I like to mosey and amble, but I can understand the lure of a fast burn.

Fixed?
:laughing

Get a long hose an run it out the cuff of your pant leg for the win! Make sure you have a signal for "don't ride behind me" figured out with your buddies before you go.

Hahaha, just run it down with all the other overflow hoses on the bike...people will just think you're having some technical difficulties.

You could make your own with a trip to OSH, and a medical supply store. It wouldnt cost you more than 10$. Condom Catheter, tape, 3/8 to 3/8 hose barb, and rubber tubing.

Thanks Backwoodsboy I appreciate the tip. Definetly going to need some longer lasting rubber for this one.

No urinator for me, that's nasty peeing all over unsuspecting tailgaters.

And the wanting to explore the east coast thing is bugging me too. I'd like to do some riding back there but that would screw up the whole coast to coast to coast concept. Maybe I should do pacific coast to Atlantic coast to gulf coast to pacific coast

200-220 miles is probably enough saddle time before stretching your legs a bit and taking a 10-15 minute break. Not so much when you start off, maybe, but past the Mississippi it'll be a welcomed relief (aka pacing yourself).

DAMHIKT.
