Looks like around $600 just to apply, and a sexy fun-to-fill-out 15 page of legal documentation BS. Gotta get pics too, and letters from other people stating that the relationship is real, blah blah blah etc


anyone ever done it? how long did it take in total, and how much did it end up costing in total?

what if said person stays past 90 days, but you dont marry them? potential legal consequences?

Thousands and Thousands of dollars later, it all ended in predictable tears.
 
Sorry, no idea but it sounds like a horror story unless she is from a real country and has no income problems.

I realized I probably know someone that has done this. In this case, "happily married ever after" <- note .. MARRIED BEFORE ENTERING THE US. Hmm, so not your case I guess. :dunno

I knew of someone who did it. I don't know what it cost, but he actually got paid (by her family) then lost it all and some when she racked up some debt and it fell onto his plate.

It's cheaper to buy hooker and blow for 90 days than to figure this all out and the potential repercussions.

Yeah, I went out with a woman a couple of times who was an immigrant, and after a few dates, all of a sudden she had a bunch of problems in the old country that she had to go attend to and she had a sick mom back home and all this stuff and she needed to get married for papers to deal with the related travel. I had to politely excuse myself permanently from that situation.
 
I know a few people that have done it. No problem if you have a legitimate relationship. Probably not the best idea if you're just testing the waters.

The best course of action is to have her get a regular travel visa, she can stay for up to 180 days on that. I'm pretty sure you can change that to the special K after by filing a petition from within the country. This is not legal advice.

we dated several months in Costa Rica, she is my age, legit relationship. so its not like i found some hawt 20something that i've never met in person, and want to ship her over here; i'm stupid, but not THAT stupid. also not that rich :laughing

That is excellent advice for choosing a mate from anywhere including next door. And even the "real country" bit is tied directly to "income problems" so to me the first line on a list for choosing a potential mate should be "no income/debt problems."

Just out of curiosity, how does the dynamic change if you go to CR and marry her there?

Or is that not in the cards at all.
