Anyone here like to catch crawfish?

By the way, I know that up in the rice fields you pretty much pick them up by hand. But, I also have crab traps that double as crawdad traps. I don't have the patience to catch them one at a time on a string.

My buddy just turned me on to a spot in Boulder Creek that I'm gonna check out. The locals say that when you have a trap, just pop a few holes in a can of cat or dog food and toss it in the trap. That is supposed to work really well.

And, yes, I'm getting ready for the dungie opener on November 1st. :thumbup

I've eaten tons of them. Life's short, eat crawdaddies. I've also eaten a rattlesnake that I've run over and cooked on top of my engine block too. (always used to keep tin foil and salt/pepper in the trunk) Not bad...

What kind of spices do you put into the water when you cook the crawdads?

Oh, sweet! Everything I read said that the rice harvest is usually in early September. Did the drought push the harvest back a bit?

But, I'm definitely really interested if you're serious about finding a spot for me. I just want to fill up a couple coolers. I'll settle for just enough to fill up my turkey frier. :thumbup

Let me start sniffing around. I think they use the crawdad/crabpots but let me check.

I used to frog gig as a youngster as well - always took three people. Two gigging and stuffing the frogs in the burlap sack (anybody know what these are anymore?) and one guy carrying the case of beer. Lots more fun catching them then cleaning.

Sweet! :thumbup

And, yes, I use burlap sacks all the time when I go out and catch rock cod and ling cod. They are only a dollar each at any bait shop. :teeth

We do this at Tahoe every year. There appears to be an endless supply of these things. Plenty of places you could go toss some traps.

I usually spend a week in Tahoe every summer and every night we set out two crawfish traps, usually catch about 3-4 dozen every day.

We sauté them in butter, lime, garlic, shallots, crystal hot sauce or Tabasco, old bay.

Tahoe is a big lake. Where bouts do you set the traps?

Glenbrook, about 15 minutes past the casinos of So. Tahoe. It's a private beach/community so it's not very crowded, making it easy to leave the traps overnight.

I'm drooling just thinking of a big pile of buttery, garlicky boiled crawfish!

Me likes to eat them more than catching.
