So, my Corgis shed an insane amount and I just moved into a home with hardwood floors. I've always thought about getting a Roomba...should I?

Anyone own one? What are your thoughts?

Thx!

We've got the one that mops for our kitchen floor. It's a 8/10. Does a good job cleaning and covers the whole floor without issue.

Downsides:
- It's loud...i'm talking "hard to hear the TV loud"
- It get's wedged between our kitchen cabinets and the floor on occasion

I'd buy one again though.

oh....you want a 'make-your-corgi-insane' machine....:twofinger

There are about 3 million Roomba + cat or dog videos on YouTube.

Should be okay, go for it.

:laughing

Make sure to buy the brand name ones. My cousins bought a knock off and it lasted 2 weeks. They then bought the Roomba and its going strong 2 years later.

I have the sweeper style- NOT the new vacuum version. Mine is the 'Dirt Dog,' for garages and basements, but it works fine on tile.

Expect to spend a lot of time cutting hair from the sweeper/roller thing. They provide an envelope slicer thing to help.

Works fine, although it will probably not eliminate the need to vacuum the house. They're noisy so don't expect to hit the start button and go to sleep.

Watch for Roomba units on woot.com for the best deal.

i have a roomba and a scooba. the roomba doesn't hold as much as a regular vacuum, but it has pretty good suction for a little machine, and does a good job with pet hair. i love being able to turn it on and go do other things. when i first got it, i tested it against the big vac (ran roomba, then ran the bagless). roomba had got most of it. i still run the big vac every now and then just to be sure - but i do like how easy the roomba is, and how good it works. be sure to empty the filter after each use though - like i said, small capacity.

I hated mine. Takes a lot longer to clean than a regular vac, makes a lot of noise, and cleaning hair out of the roomba's brushes takes an eternity. Oh yeah, and my neighbors started complaining about the noise because the walls were paper thin. Heck, four minutes of hand vacuuming yielded better results than having the roomba irritatingly scoot around for a good 2 hours.

Quite possibly the worst $300 I ever spent. The GF took it with her when we broke up. Good riddance.

I always figured the Roomba was something that you programed to go when you were at work so that if it takes 2 hours, nobody is there to notice :dunno

I just got one, the new pet model. I'm at work so I haven't even plugged it in yet, but after reading probably a hundred reviews on Amazon for all the different models, I think it's just what we need for my wife's mutant hair-ball cat. Our new place is a smallish two-bedroom house with all hardwood floors, all on one level, and I expect to clean the wheels and brushes and empty it every day. Wish I could tell you how it's working out, maybe in a week and a half when I get home.

Does it have a problem getting over transition strips between floor types? It's one reason why I have never looked into purchasing one.. I have transition strips everywhere. :laughing

Oh yes, I already know how it's going to be......now take that video and x2 since I've got two little Corgi fiends.. =)

And I plan on using setting it to work when I'm not home. Since I live in a loft with cement walls, you really can't hear shit from any of my neighbors and they can't hear me...no matter how loud it is. I had a party with ~75 people over, music blasting, once I walked out my door and shut it, I couldn't hear shit. YAY for cement walls!

I guess I'll buy it and try it out. Newegg has them for only $169.

I am worried because between the TWO Corgis and my super uber long hair,...I know I'll have to clean it everyday...but if it means my floors get clean while I'm at work and I get to come home to Corgi-fur-free floors...I'm all for it.

no one can hear you scream >:3

:p

Tis true...tis true....

You mean no one can hear when I beat you with the riding-crop.... *whack whack whack* Good VTRZA.. :D

Be sure to get the one you can schedule, not all of them have that feature.

I had the 560 and it works great. I would just turn it on when I left. Picks up stuff that I never saw my vacs pick up. It is a bit expensive but great for hardwood floors. They do get kind of hung up in the dining room around the table and all those chairs. I usually just picked up the chairs and put them on the table before running it.

We've had one for a couple of years now - it does a decent job when it runs daily, but we still get out the large bagless about once a week. The biggest issue we have is that it has a hard time re-docking with it's power source when it's put on the carpet. I've been meaning to move the power source onto a solid surface to see if it makes a difference but I've been pretty lazy since we retired.

I keep thinking I need to set it up with an iPod or something so that as it's merrily making its way through the house it can sing "Whistle While you Work" or something...
