Anyone ridden a Honda NC700x?

Price, storage, fairing, mpg all make sense. Styling is actually pretty nice, better than V-strom, Versys.

Tall bike and low power aren't too interesting. Couldn't they make the thing rev up a bit more, to 7500 maybe? Oh well. Faster than a Ninja 300.

There isn't anything else above 6500 RPM, no need to wind it up more.

This motorcycle sounds like the ticket for commuters/light tourers. Compare the price to anything else out there. Cheap but seems to be have good enough spec for any commuter.

If I ever got this thing, I'd want a dual-disk front wheel. 'Adequate' is actually inadequate.

That thing is way better than any Harley ever made. Thats why it won't sell. People don't ride motorcycles to be sensible, if they did scooters would be all over the place.:teeth

I bought this bike when it was the BMW F650CS - heavy, underpowered, totally quirky with extra luggage, ZERO street cred, great gas mileage and low maintenance. That was an awesome bike for my 90 daily miles of commuting. The NC700 series looks to be everything that bike was and better in every way. If I were logging on the hwy miles, this would be my bike of choice, even having never ridden one.

That's what I was about to say - you beat me to it. The NC700 even has the same front storage compartment as the BMW.

Scooters are all over the place in other countries but they still sell anywhere from 70,000 to 250,000 per year in the US.

Most scooters are sitting in non riders garages gathering dust. Most guys on this forum think riding a scooter is like fucking a fat chick, both of which I''ve done and enjoyed r
the hell out of it.

No wonder you like the Harley. :laughing

You missed my point.

My point:

This is a modular design which is cheap to produce and the costs are spread over several models and likely many years of production.

This means the per unit costs will be lower than something like a CBR600r, meaning they don't have to sell as many in the US to make a profit.
Ah,good point.:teeth

I liked it until I saw that:
- seat is way too high for me.
- ABS only available with an automatic transmission - what? wait... what?

Love the V-twin, FI, MPG, and its a Honda.
Looks pretty good for a dual sport too.

FYI, it is neither a V-twin, nor a dual sport. Still a pretty interesting bike, though.

And used the former fuel tank space as a storage area to lock away your full-face helmet and gloves.
...

this bike may win over lots of people. Or it may sell poorly and wait til 10 years later to be a cult classic like some other Hondas.
I saw one in a shop a couple of months ago. IIRC getting a full face helmet in the storage space is optimistic. Unless it's a small helmet. Do I remember wrong?

Speaking of the other Hondas that didn't do well here, I thought about the NT700V when I was last shopping--I think the market segment is similar. It wasn't the style that I wanted but the narrow profile built in luggage with the pass-through really appealed to me. I didn't like the color choices though especially as it seemed like ABS models were all silver. If I had liked the color, I would have been willing to overlook the style thing.

A modular helmet MIGHT fit, with the chinbar up. Other than that, only if it's in pieces. Definitely not a dual-sport, even Honda admits that. Fire roads are possible, but anything more is a definite fail.

I was at Mission Motorcycles a few weeks back and actually fit my Nolan N43 Modular (XL) helmet into the storage space - with shield and chin-bar on and down. It just fit...

I'd buy this bike in a second had I the bucks and it was used for under 5 grand with low miles. I commute-70 MPG sounds awesome in the era of $4+ Obamaga$$.

If mpg is what you want, a Ninja 300 is under 5 grand and its official mpg rating is higher (68 vs. 64 for NC700X). No helmet bucket of course.

Yes, but the 300 is gutless.

NT700V was awesome, just stupid spendy.

Different motor than that NC700x. one is a clean sheet parallel twin. The NT is a refined version of the motor from the old Honda Hawk GT.

It would make sense to me that Honda would come out with a Faired touring rig based on the NC700x. They would then have shared tooling across the Adventure tourer, naked street bike, scooter and tourer.

I really need to snag a ride on one.
