I am interested in hearing about what likes/dislikes you have about your VFR. What year was the last updated model, and how it handles in the twister roads. I was riding a sportbike which is great and all ,until the body starts aching. After sitting on one, it seems the clip-ons(bolt-ons) could be abit farther back for my 6 ft frame and I hope the seat is good enough for 5 hrs of seat time. TIA

I love the VFR, though it is a big fat pig it handles extremely well and is fun to ride. For long rides you may want heli bars to lift the bars an inch or so.

It's a heavy bike, but all that weight keeps the bike planted on windy days such as yesterday. :twofinger Bring it on San Mateo bridge. Bring it on :twofinger

i have a 02 with the factory hard bags. the vfr still has it's place in my garage watching several other bikes go to new owners. it's a great traveler and sporty enough for a tourer.

get some Helibars, grip warmers, hard luggage and you have a winner

take of the luggage and surprise all the 600 and 750 guys. Then after 2 hours in the saddle watch them want to stop as you roll on:thumbup

It is like 2 bikes in one, I have a 02 if you are really interested in one that is already setup, this racing bug has bit me so hard I dont ride on the street any more:thumbup

I have a 5th gen one--a '98. It's too damn big for me (I'm 5'6"), and heavy, and the ergos don't match my body. Aside from that, it is reliable, comfortable (with Helibars), and totally capable. I've done novice trackdays on it, I've ridden down fire roads in CO, I've toured to Montana.
It seems to do better on sweepers to goat trails, but can certainly do both.

I'm a current, happy owner of my third VFR (two 5th gen, one 6th gen). It's a great bike in my opinion; it balances all-day comfort with performance in a nice-looking package.

Drawbacks? It's got that "let's use a lot of technology" Honda ethos so it's heavy and valve checks are more complicated than necessary. That said, they're reliable with the current version essentially unchanged aside from refinements since 2002.

A clean 5th gen (98-01) is worth considering, just as you won't go wrong with a nice 6th gen (02+).

Thanks for the replies! Sounds like its owners are happy with it. Specs say 551 lbs. dry weight, so Im guessing 600 lbs. wet. Thats alot of bike, although flopping it back and forth at the dealership it doesnt seem to bad. 25th ann. ed. paint looks pretty nice.

Scottinexile send me some pics, esential info, maybe, just maybe.

Big Valley Honda here in reno has a 07 25th anniversary edition that was a ex-rental bike. I think it has about 4k miles on it. It has been sitting on the floor for almost 2 years now I bet you could get a screaming deal on it.

Here is the one pic of the bike when we were riding 2's up at the track

2's up at the track

Covered in gear

I dont have any pics of the pike with all the luggage on it but if you want I can wheel it out this week and take some

If you want any more details on the bike let me know and I will PM you:thumbup

i have a 6th gen and i'm in absolute love with it. I bought some heated grips, a sport touring zero gravity windshield, and hard luggage. I wish the seat was a little softer, but other than that i have absolutely no complaints. absolutely great bike...around a 5.25 gallon tank, and it has pretty good range at freeway speeds.

Saw your bike at the track Saturday and Sunday nice:thumbup There was a really nice 07 there on Sunday as well

800

I have ridden the 1st 4 gen's and like the 2nd gen best by far. Lighter, comfy, NO LINKED BRAKING. I now have a Wee Strom and the VFR was on CL the day after I bought it. The Strom does pretty much everything better than the VFR, with the exception of 120mph+ and track days, which are not as important to me as they used to be.

I have a Gen4 VFR and think it's a great bike. As everyone has said, it's a great all-around bike. Very reliable too. However, if you get an "older version," the R/R seems to be the weakness. Mine just fried a couple weeks ago and I replaced it with a GSXR RR. So far so good.

There was another 4th gen VFR at infineon at the afm races...another turn worker.

There was some scratches on the body work, but the odometer showed 000984...he said it turned over about a week before the afm race

A MILLION miles:wow Maybe a new odometer? Anyway glad I asked about this bike, sounds like the only thing neg. is the valve check, how many miles in between checks? cost of the valve check? Other than that I think I could do the rest of the Maint.

Lots of folks do their own valve checks because they dont trust the techs at their local Honda shop:thumbup

Most folks I have spoken to are over 50K miles with no problems on the valves

check that....00984 haha

I bought an '03 last September to ride to Seattle and back with the intention of selling it afterwards. I still have it and am planning a X-country trip. I'm 6'0 170 it fits me perfectly. add heated grips

light and fast enough to keep up with sportbikes on day rides
dosile and comfortable enough to spend multiple days in
power and big enough to carry alot of luggage
big tank really nice for rural CA/NV
cruises great >40 mph

heavy for around town, not a good city bike
bodywork to scratch (some VFR owners can be very particular when you go to sell it)
doesn't wheelie as easy as an 800 should
VTEC can be unnerving in corners, you need to think what gear you are in so it doesn't hit mid corner
friends call you old once you get one

would like to try a track day on it
now if I could just get it to transform into a motard...

I have an '02 w/ABS & hardbags - I've put ~11K miles on it since I bought it in '05. Did a 1800 mile trip from Santa Rosa to Portland last fall - 4 days of riding/~450 miles per day.

I'm 6'4"/240 - I've added Converti-bars, a Givi tall screen, mirror extenders and Buell XB12 pegs (1.25" lower).

My previous bike was an '88 Katana 1100 - the VFR is a great all-around bike and I have no complaints about the handling.

That said, I am interested in selling the bike as my interests are moving towards adventure touring - BMW GS/KTM Adventure/KLR 650 - and that's the one area the VFR ain't gonna work:) I'm in Santa Rosa and would be willing to meet somewhere for a test ride if your interested.
