Anyone Rocking an Airbag System? Have You Crashed in One?

I've seen the CE labels, but also made an assumption the tests didn't go beyond materials testing. Reading up now with your info...that was a good resource drop. If you've got more info, please post away. I'm into learning from here vs other resources.

Honestly, I thought you guys were trolling. It was simply inconceivable to me that active motorcyclists, especially ones that form the bulk of the ATGATT contingent, had never heard of 30-year old standards. I mean, you don and doff these PPE every time you ride, and the standards are printed or stamped on every single one of these.

The standards themselves are for industry use, which means there is a fee to obtain them from the European Commission (the CE you mentioned); whichever manufacturer wants to certify their products, obtains these standards and commissions a lab to perform the tests therein. I have provided links to samples of these standards in a previous answer, and you can obtain more information by googling the specific standards.

MC Gear Hub also had a very good interview about the standards with one of the industry experts a few years ago.

Thanks for the information despite it being delivered condescendingly.
These airbags are not in wide use and there is some real skepticism about effective they really are, despite what the test labels say.

I understand how people can come off as arrogant and condescending. I've got some experience and history there. Doubling down on the insults says a lot more.

not field tested (thank God), but otherwise very happy with Tech-Air® 7X System, primarily been using for track duty, but it has two modes - street, track. Very breathable (thunderhill summer time tested), relatively light for the areas of coverage..

Got an email from hit air. New vest.

"Not in wide use" by you maybe, but in universal use by the entire MotoGP field for years, the entire Rally Raid field, the Isle of Man racers, etc., etc.

Stop digging man, just stop digging.

The VHR is at least 7 years old. When it first emerged it was touted as the fastest-deploying airbag, but people soon realised that it didn't protect the tailbone as well as the MLV, so it didn't sell well; although it was the most expensive airbag in Hit-Air's roster, they eventually had to drop the price below that of the lowly MLV in order to be able to move them.

Hit-Air hasn't introduced a new airbag since the VHR. They basically missed the boat by refusing to enter the electronic airbag market, so they are now relying mostly on equestrian sales.

Thanks for the info. I have the racing model so didn’t know this.

I haved added, "Update software airbag" to my track day prep list.

Also, if you have Tech Air 7x, make sure you have latest canister from their replacement "improvement" program.

My buddy has the Alpinestar, said one he removed it quickly and tossed it down to get undressed and it inflated on him when it hit the chair/table/whatever. Apparently it needed a few seconds to disarm he says? But said it costs $100 to get it reset.

Didn't someone get jump off a short wall and set off their Alpinestar before? It's been 10 years maybe??

As for me, sounds nice and I'd like one but I ride adventure bikes most of the time and find myself on dirt half the time. And I'll dump it playing on the dirt so I'd hate for it set off too easily.
