Anyone with experience with the KTM Freeride?

You and your beta propaganda. :rolf (congrats on the new one!)

I'd buy a beta if I had the free cash.

Interesting perspective on the Electrics with the same model name. Do you propose they can count both as one model to essentially split the emissions in half?

No, the emissions scoring is based on the entire line. So the electrics are sort of emission "placeholders" bringing the overall score down.

For instance, some manufacturers come up with some incredibly stupid moronic models (not naming names kawasaki) simply in order to beat the emissions game.

In reality it is incredibly complicated I'm trying to explain it so anyone can wrap their mind around an incredibly complicated system.

They meaning KTM-Husq or everybody who makes 2Ts? Why do they have no choice? They just declare it for closed course and bam, done. Plenty of bikes are imported without even spark arrestors.

Yes, I'm referring to "real" enduro bikes made for that purpose. Headlight, wide ratio transmission, longer range, etc. Most of those will go to FI. For closed course they can keep doing whatever they want.

The truth is, it's a pain in the ass getting to the carb on the last 3 MX bikes I've used as trail bikes. I have to remove the subframe. The last bike I had where I could just loosen the carb and rotate it to access the float bowl and slide cap was a KDX200. Maybe Euro bikes are better in this respect.

Unless you like riding from about 32 F to 60 F. The temp range is too much for a carb.

I can simply rotate it on the Beta, I've actually never removed the carb and have played with the jetting. I've been on the trail and have seen a friend do the same same on a KTM 300 XC-W, so it looks like you are correct in that the euro bikes might be simpler to access the carb for a rejet.

It's a given that FI street bikes are way better than carbs, right? Starting, throttle response, fuel storage, economy, etc. Hopefully those attributes cross over to off-road 2T. Plus the big one, air density compensation, for changing altitude and temperature. I'll get a FI YZ250X as soon as Jimmy Lewis et al. say it can go from 2,000 ft to 6,000 ft or from 32 F to 60 F, without changes.

I believe the FI 2T KTMs have already been tested on a range of altitudes/temps and have not required any changes.

I rode Ryan's electric KTM yesterday on Horseshoe and Snake at Metcalf. Little bike, big fun. Nimble. Ryan rode my Alta.

They are not aimed at the same target.

Butch:

Not to thread jack but I would be real interested to hear much more of your thoughts on both bikes and how they compare to one another.

Not a treadjack, as I thought that this was originally about the E Ride, and the manufactures love confusion.

I'll put more in my Alta thread...

though I am trying to figure out how to articulate my impressions. Good dirtbikes can be scary. The KTM E Ride did not do that for me.
