are a lot of northern CA born/bred people moving to oregon?

Typical shitty ad. Mentions 3000 sq foot shop but all they show pictures of are the damn house. You can sleep anywhere! There are requirements for a proper shop. :x

Speaking of, what did epoxying the floor run you? Per sqft if you know. I'm assuming you did the work yea?

Edit, this wasn't directed at you, 3000sqft doesn't seem too excessive depending on the size of one's family

the wife and I are in 1400sqft and think it's too much for the 2 of us :laughing

agreed about location but I was envious of the small lake and the acreage even though it looks mostly wooded.

Half that still gets you a nice pad right on the river, not that kind of privacy though.

That's something I really like about Alaska, most rural areas don't have property tax. It's the last place in the country where one can really be left alone, which I think is a core right, though obviously not directly documented.

Nevada's not so hot on property taxes either. California is actually pretty decent.

until you get into Prop 13 and grandfathering

which I'm not complaining but if my neighbors knew how much I paid in property tax they would cry while I laughed - it's one of the reasons I won't tear down and rebuild.

In regards to property taxes, rural Alaska or gtfo. :x

That is way out in asscrackistan, enjoy your traffic. :p

pffft. All the good tech jobs are in Beaverton/Hillsboro anyway. They also have a nice rail system that runs to downtown that is WAY easier to commute on than the freeway (or to take and get drunk in downtown on) :laughing

We are looking at Beaverton as well - just can't get as much land for the $

Hillsborough , even southern HB, puts us in commute distance to Beaverton.

We have a few friends in Beaverton and they absolutely love it - say's its the perfect distance to Portland. Just far enough but not too far away

Man traffic is one of the biggest reasons I'm becoming dissolutioned with here

It is only going to get worse...

Midrise's are rising and the people that cannot afford to live here will continue to rise and more will have to commute and the number of people will keep increasing.. until we are called North SoCal.

While the whole driving a few hours to get to the grocery sounds nice, i think the reality of it all will have it's charm wear away quickly. Having a back up generator for power is cool and i have that at my house now, but f*ck that sh*t for a main power supply :laughing

If I was moving up north, there's no way I would stop at Oregon. Keep going til you reach Washington.
