I'd nonop the 03 WR450 (need to get around to selling it), but I worry about whether they'd re-issue a plate for it when it comes time to re-register as it should be red sticker.

Didn't see the option for ... sold several.

I had 3 bikes I rarely rode ... once the price went up to f'ing stupid I decided it wasn't worth the extra $300 or so a year to have them available for the occasional ride. So I sold them.

So I've reduced the number of bikes I own, and I've reduced the number I buy & sell. I would typically buy 2-4 used bikes a year, ride them 3-12 months, and sell them again. Just to try different bikes. It is just getting harder to justify the registration fees ... and the taxes have always been painful.

So fewer bikes owned, and fewer bikes bought/sold.

Yes, I am going non op on a number of bikes and considering selling some because of the fees. Some of my bikes only get ridden a couple times a year, but are specialized (ie trials, or baja bike etc.)

There are 8 bikes in my garage and I am facing over a thousand dollars in fees for 2019. I'm not happy. NONE of the bikes are worth very much. But they all have their uses and I could justify $4-500 a year, but not $1000+. :thumbdown

Bringing the stable down from 3-5 to 2-3.

I am not paying 120+ a year to register a $1000 dollar bike.
This stuff is bonkers.

I'm probably bringing one bike out of non-op this year and adding another. I'll grumble while I write the check, but the fee increase has had no bearing on my decisions thus far.

Ive got 4 bikes (and 3 cars)

Not pleased like most of you folks. Quite frankly, I don't know what i'm going to do.

Non-Op my '86 Honda Elite and risk riding it in the City and not get a ticket? I only use it for Safeway runs.

Possibly selling my vintage scooter.

Swap plates around?

I just don't know right now. I certainly can't afford it anymore. This is just f'd up.

Id like the option of Damn it I have multiple bikes, I don't like these fee increases for no real reason other than to take my money and divert it someplace else.
Cost of business be damned.... We all know where the money is going, and its not to fix the roads.
However Whammy will not deregister a bike he rides often enough.

For instance my old CBR600RR cost me 36.00 a few years ago.
Just before I sold it the reg bounced up to 126.00

I currently have 4 bikes, 2 are non op'd. One non op bike is my pit bike for the track. That has been saving about $50 a year in the past, don't know what it would be now. One bike is a project that is not running, obvious choice for non op. I would like to say that CA sucks, but that's not exactly true. It's only most of the people here that suck. I don't know how they manage to be so stupid when it's time to vote. It's not just the cost of vehicle reg, tax, and use. It's everything. It's just continuing to get worse. I sure wish I had an answer, but sadly I don't. Well not for most of you. As someone who recently retired my own answer is to move to another state. Won't be much longer. Hopefully I will be in NV by the end of the year.

you sure about $36? I've never seen registration in CA anywhere *near* that cheap.

Before the recent increase I saw under $100 on very cheap vehicles but not by much.

7 bikes here
1 of them is a non opped basketcase, need to finish and sell it.
1 will be non opped and sold
1 is green sticker
2 more will be nonopped this year, keeping because they are cult bikes I want to keep.
Just going to keep 1 street bike and 1 dual sport plated. Sigh.
Fewest bikes I've had in over a decade

This is me....word for fucken word.
Weird.

This just made the decision easier for me. I have my street bike that'll get registered. My other bikes will be offroad/track only.

Side note, just be aware that a non-op doesn't only mean that you can't drive/ride it. You can't even legally transport it!

California law requires vehicles to be currently registered if they are driven, towed, stored, or parked on public roads or highways at any time during the registration period.

Not that it's very likely the officer would ask for registration for a bike in/on a trailer going to the track but it CAN happen. I heard about a sting at a race track where they confiscated/fined a ton of bikes that were stolen and/or not registered at a track event.

The legal definition of "towed" means it has a tire on the ground. If it's in a truck or on a trailer it isn't being towed.

The officer that was telling us about this mentioned that the vehicle cannot be transported, period, while on PNO. Maybe he was full of it. I don't know, it just stuck with me ever since.

I'd love to know what he'd cite you for.

I have 2 bikes. Ride them both regularly. I pays the man.

I have 2 bikes, both will be reg'd - it's too much hassle to re-reg / re-activate insurance when I want to go riding.

HOWEVER: this whole "oh hey let's squeeze CA residents for all the cash we've mismanaged by raising reg costs across the board" bullshit has to go. I heard rumors of people getting hit with $1k reg renewals on new cars / trucks they purchased last year.

This is gonna suck more when the impending recession hits. :/

Unless it was just an oddball transfer, and the previous owner had paid all the fees.
