That's a great idea BudMan and an appropriate reminder that nothing is free EXCEPT FOR BARF! Let's keep it the going as the best online motorcyclist community.

That's my point precisely.

How would one know, if not told? How can the 'community' help to become better, if we as a community don't know how, or why to help BARF? More importantly, why would we help BARF, with donations to sell things when we can get it for free on CL?

That's it in a nutshell. If barf gave everyone a consise understanding of what Barf does for the community, and how we all can help with the importance on why we should, it will change the structure of the community.

I'm happy to help because I have watched BARF in action for years (from afar). But if you want all these kids to help, or help more, you have to tell them flat out why.

Here is some barf history from wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Arnoha/Bay_Area_Riders_Forum

I have taken what Arnoha started and added to the current years.. had too since Siggy won an FP Championship..:teeth

Once I complete I will ask his permission to use his stuff..which is top notch. Really a great effort and I owe him some shirts.

Funding those who fund local is awesome, good on you budman. I know you have a "Donate" link at the tippy top of every page, but everyone instinctively scrolls past that immediately to look at the threads. Over on Calguns they have a link right with the little "welcome/you last visited/private messages" box and you always see it. It's a very minor ergonomic difference, but the difference in who sees it is huge. People are lazy, have short attention spans, and become discouraged incredibly easy, and you've got to make it as easy as possible to catch them in that split-second where they're happy to donate before something shiny goes by.

everytime I post a bike here for sale its a bunch of tirekickers and lowballers, worse than craigslist. If I ever do get a sale from here, I'll be more than happy to contribute :thumbup

BARF is the only website that I have ever been that has very little annoying ads, less restriction on classifieds yet completely free. I hope everyone can pitch in and keep this going.
Budman.. thanks for growing BARF as big as it is. I'll pitch in a bit more..

is there a specific page to make this donation. Is BARF a 501 c3? Just curious about the tax benefits for the BARF communities. Thanks JR

503 is a charity I believe..and we are not. The amount of paperwork to do that was more than my wife was willing to tackle. I know I have stretched her patience with barf, she does appreciate some of the kind words you guys share when donating.

She likes seeing the freeway notifications to and knowing that barf helped make that happen.

There is no specific page for "this" donation.

Same donate button.

I equate it to not real money, but Karma points. Which no one really owns, it just goes around in a circle and touches us all :)

Thanks Budman, family and all the folks involved for giving us a place to occupy our time :thumbup :applause clicking to refill my karma now ;)

Can I say I am in the 1% now :laughing

Cool! I think this is a good idea. I'd much rather buy from a barfer than some random craigslist person. :)

I've seen sellers also mention in their ads that XXX dollars would be donated to barf upon sale of their bike and that's a righteous move. :thumbup

Definitely in, Buyer and Seller should participate.

I had been racking my wee brain trying to figure out what 'contributor' meant. I figured it was time spent telling people that their opinion was wrong.
I thought that too!:laughing
I've only now discovered the option to purchase a custom user tag:laughing
I didn't know it existed either! Worse, I still have no idea how to find it.:toothless. So where is that thing located to customize? .....and that's what she said.:teeth
It's crazy I am just now finding out about this too. I figured this was an option that unlocked with "contribution" to the forum.
How this is not a mandatory PM to all new users, I will never know.
I like the PM to all users idea best but with easy to follow directions for dummies and future sbk sluts, please.:teeth

re:flakes - I posted a non-running klr a couple months ago at 12:52 am on Monday, the first guy to pm me was at 1:59am. I figured, yeah sure, who the hell is up looking at bikes for sale at 2am? He came a hauled it away on Saturday, so no flakiness for me. :teeth

If you list your contribution as a "gift", it makes BARF's tax life a little easier too--more of your money goes to the site. :)

I couldn't figure out how to do this - either through the donate link or directly from paypal. Can you post a "how to donate as a gift for dummies" tutorial?

it's been a while since my last donation so I'm due...
