Austrian e-bike (Johammer)

Looks like a typical design exercise by someone who knows very little about motorcycles and has never ridden one.

Ape hangers and highway pegs on a leccy bike ? What size is that front wheel ? Tire choices for that ?

[Google translated the article and did some more light editing, except I have no idea how to edit a couple of the weirder translated sentences...]

Electric motorcycle Johammer J1: We can also differently

Power or not? Most electric bikes are not recognizable as such, they look like their gas-siblings. A real problem to the Austrian start-up Johammer, which has designed a very, very different e-bike.

It is so different from the others. The rear view mirrors are reminiscent of the antennae of an insect, the chassis of a peanut, the fuselage of Junkers aircraft of the thirties. Luckily, the Johammer J1 has two wheels, so we can at least guess that it is a motorcycle.

The Austrian company Johammer, based in Bad Leonfelden, builds environmentally friendly two-wheelers. Such as model J1, a motorcycle with electric drive, which is not only exceptional, but is also one hundred percent recyclable.

One approach is fundamental for the company. "All the resources of this earth are limited," says Managing Director Johann Hammer Schmid. "When we use valuable raw materials, products made therefrom shall be so designed that the longest possible useful life is given."

The Johammer J1 is no other prototype of the series of great ideas that you had to transpose times. It will go into production. When driving an e-machine comes with a power of 11 kW (15 hp), which accelerates the bike to a top speed of electronically limited 120 km / h. Currently there are two versions: The J1.150 has a battery capacity of 8.3 kWh, weighs 159 pounds and has a range of 150 kilometers. The J1.200 brings it through a battery with 12.7 kWh of storage capacity on a weight of 178 kilograms, had but also a range of 200 kilometers.

No dash, but four headlights

The battery can be charged at any household socket. Depending on the model it takes two and a half to three and a half hours, with fast charge function a maximum of 80 minutes. Johammer guarantees buyers a battery life of 200,000 kilometers. After that, the batteries go into their "second life". In the so-called Second Life, and they will continue to be used as a stationary storage medium for photovoltaic systems.

This motorcycle does not have the conventional dash on the handlebar. Instead, all the major travel, status and warning information are shown on its 2.4-inch, high-resolution color displays, which are integrated into the rearview mirror. On the other side of the mirror lights and indicators are fitted. Two additional headlights are located above the front wheel.

The majority of the components were designed Johammer itself, especially challenging was the development of 70-pound battery from a total of 1200 individual lithium-ion batteries. "Since available components on the open market did not meet our requirements, we had to lend a hand almost everywhere," says engineer Luke Geymayer. "The production technology for each component comes from our house."

To try's a day tour through Upper Austria

Four years in the making, now has started the production phase and the first seven Johammer-cars will be delivered in the next few days. Currently Johammer plans with annual sales of 50 motorcycles per year - if that works, the company would be reached by its own account in six years in the profit zone.

The models cost depending on battery capacity 23,000 or 25,000 Euros. That's a lot of money, which is why Johammer tried a special marketing idea: For 290 euros, the company offers a Johammer-day tour of Upper Austria. Breakfast, drinks, tour guide and a fully charged battery are included.
