BARF Golf Tournament

I already hold the club so far up the grip that the end of it wears a hole in my glove after a bucket or two at the range.

So yeah, longer shafts for me. Maybe even thicker grips too? I’ve got pretty big hands. If the fitter wants to mess around with lie angles and such too, they can go nuts. If I buy another full set, I’ll spend whatever money it takes, but it’s going to be exactly right for me.

When I say choke up, I guess I mean "down" the shaft. As in closer to the club head.

I'm in!!!!!

Sweet! :party

I was at the driving range last year. I'm using garage sale clubs. So I'm hitting my DRIVER like 150 yards. 13 year old next to me is hitting a 7 iron over 200...
I'm pathetic

Mad

It's generally not the quality of the clubs when you're talking about irons. I'll flat out admit that I was hitting a cheap driver only 120-130 yards at first just thinking that I sucked. But then I had friends use it and they didn't hit much farther and these are guys that hit 220-250 every time with their driver. I was convinced it was just a super shitty club. So I managed to land a Big Birtha 10* for free and the first time I connected with it, I knocked it about 175 yards. After improving my swing, if I hit it right, I'm getting super close to 200. My problem is, I keep wanting to swing like a baseball swing and that's screwing my game up. I've been fighting it for a while now and making progress, bit it's still there a bit. My thing is, how in the hell are you going to get any real distance on your drives if you're just allowing the club to the do the work and not trying to muscle it at all? No matter how nice of a driver I've hit (borrowing other people's drivers...), I still don't hit it much farther than 185 or so. Of course, it gains a bit after that by rolling, but we're talking just the actual distance of the drive itself.

As for irons, I've seen good players (single-digit handicaps) hit my cheap irons way better than I'm hitting them. There's also plenty of videos on YouTube of good players playing with shitty irons and still hitting nearly the same score as with their $1500-2000 Pings or Callaways. It's generally not the irons...it's you. :laughing I wouldn't spend money on new clubs unless I was a pro player or actually had a handicap that denoted the need for new/fancier clubs. Most of your issues can just be fixed by correcting swing problems.

The first time I ever golfed was hilarious. Friend had been golfing for 3 years by that time. I hugely hooked a T shot into the woods. Hit a tree, bounced back on the fairway. Topped another worm burner which managed to skip across the arm of a lake.....back on the fairway. I Damn near beat my friend. He was looking like he was going to have an aneurysm

Mad

For the baseball swing, some switch to left hand clubs, to learn the correct muscle memory.
A right handed player needs to pull more with the left, and let the right arm follow.

I'll be out in the desert, with all its critters, good rocks and bad, by the end of next week. Been a couple of years

Bumping this up again to see if there is any interest still.

I think it would be a great opportunity to raise some monies for BARF, or if teh Budman prefers, a charity of his choice?

Depends on when and where. I finally broke down and got new clubs to replace my hella old Nike Pro Combos.

Which I was closer.

I would be interested in being ridiculed by y'all watching me shuck balls into the weeds.

mikev(for mod), if we think COVID will be less of an issue by the end of summer, that would be a good time. The main issue is getting enough people to commit ahead of time so we can book the tourney somewhere.
Doesn't have to be some crazy expensive place, just a venue we can all have a good time. BTW, did you get rid of your old Nike's? I have a buddy i've been trying to get to play.

Kurosaki, I'll play in your group, Then i'll just drop where yours lands because mine would be lost for sure.

I did not, but I may hang onto them and let my kid use em.

Back out here in the desert,
Most of the golfers here bailed to green golf, three years ago, by
moving to Parumph

I need to get into Havasu to regrip my desert clubs

This Barf tourney, a one time or reoccurring?
Added to a rally?
Driving balls off a fire lookout?
October?

I think it would be an awesome re-occurring tourney. It all depends on the success of the first one. I'm sure a Rally could be made in tandem. Maybe do a charity auction/lunch after. I'm sure people would be willing to donate stuff to sell for that etc.

Funding would help BARF and/or charity depending on what BARF higher ups are comfortable with.

First thing first though, we'd need about 20-30ish people to commit/show interest first. Then we can get some quotes from courses. My company throws a yearly tourney (shotgun start) that includes a lunch after. Shotgun starts are ideal as everyone finishes around the same time and can all meet for lunch and the auction. We've done it at Shoreline, Moffett, Los Lagos, the now gone Santa Clara. We now do it at coyote the last few years. I've been to ones at Santa Teresa as well.

I don't mind helping out getting quotes when the time comes. If it's a success the first year, maybe we can start getting some sponsors into the mix the following years.

I'm glad to see this finally progressing a bit. Making an annual event out of it is exactly what I think it'd be best as. However, part of a rally would be tough as most (if not all) of us can't bring a set of clubs on our motorcycles. :laughing

I mean, you can just wear your clubs like a backpack but don't forget lane splitting is out of the question. :ride

From out of the desert wilderness,

A secret skunk works, hammering out another marketing winner.

Engineered for the rigors of "green" golf, and full use of your bag of clubs.

Has been :ride up to 20 MPH, without issues, so far.
Cart wheel bearings are suspect, during freeway travel.
