Losing Slowblood hit so hard. Immediately upon hearing of his passing so many stories bubbled to the surface of my mind. Makes me think, instead of waiting for each of us to die let's start recounting some of our favorite barf stories now.

I'll start with one:

Riding in the rain with Nemo and Kim. (both no longer post here FML)

I can't remember why, but Nemo, Kim and I decided it would be a brilliant idea to go for a rain ride from Alameda to Point Reyes and beyond. It was not a gentle rain, rather it was a brutally cold, wind driven, full on cyclone-I believe they are referred to as atmospheric rivers nowadays. Anyway, we kept our speed as brisk as fogged up shields and wind chill would permit. It might be a good time to note that that we lacked appropriate rain gear.

What I do remember is sitting in a restaurant in Point Reyes dripping all over and leaving noticeable puddles under our chairs. I also remember water pouring out of our boots with every step.

Good times, I miss my two friends but see them on IG and FB so know that they are both alive and thriving.

Please, post yours, preferably with pictures.

One time in baja..... :laughing

Twowheeledtramp managed to mangle her cast wheel on the WEEEstrom. Our favorite Russian Dmitry managed to find his favorite wheel straightening and balancing tool on the side of the road, a perfectly weighted rock. :eboy

Or our quick group thinking when Mr. 1962Siia lost the the complete sole from his Sidi boot, exposing his socks, on the Calle de Muerte. Thankfully the locals leave empty beer cans everywhere, and we were able to fashion a sole from the cans and duct tape. It worked until we reached the next village, and the beer can was upgraded with the sole from a sacrificed flip flop in the next village. The flip flop worked for the rest of the trip. :ride

Or Anytwowilldo making do as one does in Baja, repairing a loose battery terminal with a borrowed torch and soldering wire to "weld it in place" until a replacement could be sourced. Beers were consumed, and no ones face was melted off from exploding battery acid. For the record, it did work. :smoking

Or one of my favorites, tentless cowboy camping on the beach at San Francisquito. Some locals were having a birthday party just down from us, and they had beer. Sasquatch, with his superior grasp of Spanish acted as our translator to see if we could join in. While in general, his Spanish is better than mine, he mistakenly used the word for little boys, instead of woman in reference to who might be attending. :shocker The birthday boy's look of shock was priceless, but we stilled enjoyed beers with them if I recall correctly. :Port

So many friends, so many stories, experiences, and adventures. True of just about any barf experience, its the people more than the riding sometimes.

I happened to be perched on a rock at whonelly deli on the first barf rally. I saw a certain barfer come off 395 followed by a CHP. Lit up. Ticketed.

When he came up I said what’s up. “Not much”
So no quick admission. I told him I saw ya get the ticket. He rolled his eyes and said “yeeeeah”.

He and I have been good friends ever since.

Sup Chill :wave

I often question my own appraisal of my skills; constant imposter syndrome, if you will. So, when I signed up for BARF's 2019 New Year's ride (my second BARF ride, ever, IIRC) and Kurt asked me to lead the "fast" group. I was stoked... and boiling with the anxiety of the responsibility. The last ride I'd led ended with someone who was very dear to me passing away because I didn't force her to stay behind me in an extremely technical section that she didn't know (the windy mountain leading to Middletown, from Napa). And, coming from a history with a club of extremely close-knit, fast riders, I had no idea how to lead a large group of relative-strangers. But, BARFers are generally pretty awesome in person and everyone was super chill, friendly, and happy with the... spirited... pace. It had been 13 years since I'd last gone on a group ride with 10+ other riders and it was the best kick-off to a new year since losing my arm.

Kurt and some of the other BARF lifers did an outstanding job of organizing, route guiding, and being the social glue during stops. It was one of many moto-memories that remind me why I love the sport/hobby so much; it's one of the few interests where I can be myself and comfortably make new friends.

Thank you, BARFers, for being awesome. I have lots of good moto-oriented rides, track days, races, or get-together memories. Something I just realized is that in most of those memories, there are at least a few of you there, too. :thumbup

Edit to add some of my favorite pics from my first BARF ride, 9 years ago (I'm old and don't remember if it was the easter or new years, ride up to Mt Tam)

:shhh:ROFLMAO:

But did you die?

You know I'll gladly ride with anyone here (if they will have me) & My campsite is always open to anyone.
Dima! Please tell he one about the guy and the axe at Stonybarf. Maybe CJ will tell the same story.

there was a road that had a bridge, when i started riding in 2006-08, there would be 50+ bikes on this stretch of road every saturday, ive met people who have ridden all the way from ohio, and canada to come and ride this road, ive also seen 2x different desmosedicis and some ex kawi gp bike that had carbon brakes on this road as well.

it got so bad, ppl posted up group rides and listed the ride as something else because popo were frequenting the spot

fast forward to 2024, you may see see a bike or no bikes at all over the weekend.

I will add one but the names will be withheld because I was not sure the statute of limitations has run out.

BARF Rally - Hawthorne Mile - Pole Line road - BARF proving grounds. Etc.

Group of 6 on various sprotbiles checking the speedo accuracy above 150mph and proper sprocket sizing. Some going well over to make sure.

Group comes up on a road closure and stops.
Group waits…..awhile.
Group finds out they are moving munitions.
Group understands and abides :flag

A solo rider comes up on 5 doses of adrenaline from testing their sprockets. Fun.

Rider is missing their co-tester so turns around and goes back to look for them.

Group waits.

Group proceeds after getting approval from Government officials.

Group is excited and immediately resumes testing.
Group slows as radar pings are pinging.
Group goes oh shit when coming over a rise and sees a dark vehicle posted down the road.
Group suspects it is the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Group proceeds nervous as fuck.
Groups sees said dark vehicle flip a tit and block our path but still rolling well below the speed limit.
Group abides and slows behind the dark vehicle.
Group sees another dark vehicle parked on the side of the road another mile down the road and officially now :wtf
Group reaches said dark vehicle with occupant standing outside staring everyone down.
Group passed said vehicle and occupant and then the second said vehicle flips a tit and follows.
The group becomes very concerned.
Group follows first said vehicle into town at sub par speeds.
Group realizes that the second said dark vehicle follows the group into the Motel parking lot.
Group parks and said second dark vehicle circles the parking lot giving the bikes the evil eye.

None of the group are questioned or detained.

There is more to the story and I will share if this group wishes. 😂

One of Bill's (Bikeama) lunch rides. This one was up to the Junction early Spring 2017. Bill and a few others road out from
Stockton, and the "Man In Yellow" over Hammie, and NoneMoreBlack from SF. If I recall the weather and the ride up Mines was BRISK, and no performance
awards were given. I'm at the end of the table w/Buell hat.

Is that Kenny Roberts cousin on the far left???

Someone needs to re-create the story of one of us who inadvertently flew past the Nevada highway patrol on Pole Line and they proceeded chasing the invader. We all got to the hotel and played hide and seek. No, we just chilled and said huh? That wasn’t us. We would never run. We are grown-ups.

I’m still waiting for CJ our master storyteller to recount the Stonybarf encounter with the Psycho Axe Wielder.
