Reminds me, I had a rear go flat in turn 8 at Willow Springs. Big long slide and then felt the telltale squirm as I straightened it out. Nice to have the pit lane just up ahead…
Wasn't there another memorable ride on westbound 58?Here is one posted elsewhere but cut up for this thread.
HWY 58 on a BARF Rally.
On one left hander I saw an egg sized rock in my path and just clipped it.
I was in the groove riding hard and fast and kept going. I was having fun for sure. Then I noted the rear felt like it was sliding a bit.. sort of like sand or dirty pavement. Nothing to serious I thought I was riding like a bad ass.
THEN.. I went into a right hander somewhere around 60mph and the back stepped out… it felt like a full on Jared Mees flat track slide, but it was probably a foot..I held my body position still as the wheel stayed out for the entire turn… 2 – 3 seconds
I was again in animal mode being super careful not to disrupt the bikes balance as it was sliding predictably. A quick WHOA as I straighten up the bike and then turned quickly into a WTF as the rear was still squirreling. I though I must have blew an oil line or something.. great.
When I got off Norcal Factory (Tom) had pulled up and was looking at my bike.. and when he did there was a f’ing flat rear.. I mean pretty f’ing flat.
He said the big one had left a nice black stripe.
I was damn lucky to ride it out and the Little Rock cost me a 600 hundo tow ultimately but with no crash I guess I am blessed once again. Plus I felt like a bad ass for doing it.
but, it could-if you know what I mean. I miss those old kitchen sink parties.I can say with a reasonable amount of confidence, nothing like that happens at the SF meetups in case anyone was nervous about what we get up to..
Eh, why not.Yes... should I share it?? I mean it included some BTL.
It was an R1 and the personalized plate was familiar to me. It was a BARFer (JS_R1). Not a participant of that Rally though.Enchanter and I were coming back North from a Rally on HWY 58 running a solid B Group pace
Cruising at 85 plus mostly and opening it up here and there.
A dude wearing tennis shoes on a Gixxer appeared and he was really moving. We let him slide by and then upped ours to stay with him. He was breaking the law big time and we followed in an attempt to make a citizens arrest.
He stayed on it and and so did we, but he got away with a wave when we stopped at Rossi's DW to let the chill set in.
Tim checked his GPS. He said we just averaged a little more than 100mph over the course of 58 on our effort to bring this law breaker to justice.
Our effort to fight crime left us both with smiles.
Tim please add or correct as necessary.![]()
Just ask permissions and tell away! Better to hear it now instead of at Benders roasting the deadI don't know how many are old enough to remember the Monday Night Ride, but I could probably write a book about what went on undocumented at the Monday Night Ride... but, it's likely best I do not for legal purposes.
My longest was from Coalinga to Hollister. Some of the bits of rocks on the road got kicked up by sticky tires. One guy’s headlight was broken and another had a rock enter the intake snorkel of a GSXR750 and blow through the elbow at the back. That was the longest time period I've been over the ton.
