Drove it for the first time two years ago trailering my car back from Reno-Fernley track and it was absolutely stunning. Riding up this road was the reason I bought a street legal bike.

Have to agree on 36. It's "the" road. I managed to get in a few of the ones you missed last Summer. I'll take 36 over 1 any day for a road to show CA. 33 to Ojai is nice and all, but relatively short. That and the ride to get there has some long bland bits (while a well planned ride to 36 does not. 1 anybody?). The huge surprise and unsung hero in the 33 ride was Cerro Noroeste. Amazing road. Long (not 36 long, but a good distance) great scenery, perfect pavement with looooong sight lines... Just a great, great piece of road

Already making plans to come back for rallies and will hang up my spurs if I miss EuroBARF again. Definitely missing CA here.
 
One of the thangs that makes 36 THE BEST is that itz like a great song or book;
there's a begin'in, a middle, and a climatic end. ('specially if yer eastbound.) :teeth
There be all kinds of great roads & environments in one road, and best of all it's a doable day ride from the bay area.
Another bonus; itz purdie much open year round! :banana
But next year I'm nominate'in HWY 89. :thumbup
 
Makes me so glad and appreciative to live up here, where the 96, 299, 1, and 36 are at my finger tips. The gang road to Fort Bragg for lunch last week. The road is still great as we've had very little rain. COLD but dry....so far

One problem, no one that lives north of Ventura County is allowed to use
"The ****" (insert road #)
This is especially true if you one lived in the Los Angeles Area and now reside in Northern California.
If you do, it clearly identifies you as "them".

Believe me on this one.

Ahhhh, you are a true detective. I am from SoCal...but since I was referencing several roads in one sentence, felt the need to identify them as such. I stopped saying "the" a while ago in everyday speech. Here's to you, ya super sleuth :twofinger I know I'll never be a true NorCal local.

You will have to spend a few weeks on Telegraph Avenue ( "The Ave" )though as part of the process.

Think of how awful it would be to be from Massachusetts or Orlando,FL those are 2 of the places that are impossible to erase from a person's bio.

And folks around here refer to SF as 'The City'... :rolleyes

Only city I think of as 'The City' is London. :twofinger And they've got highway signs to prove it. :laughing

Of course in BF Egypt, Cairo is also referred to as The City. Same for the folks living in the rain forest in the Congo, and their beloved Kinshasa.

Pretty much what bikeama said. There was a lot of input into the list of roads in the poll, and it didn't make the cut. Probably due to traffic and enforcement. Spectacular piece of road for sure.

The question we were trying to answer was, if an avid motorcyclist was visiting from out of state, and that person asked you what was the one road that was an absolute 'must ride', what is the one road above all others that you'd tell that person to ride while here? For you, maybe it's 120 between Yosemite and Lee Vining, but for most folks who voted in the poll it wasn't. That's what makes it a horse race. :teeth
 
I've only done a couple of the ones up there. I've ridden the 1 and the 33 a few times and they are great. It's just a long day on the bike since I hit those when going from the east bay to LA.

So cal has some nice ones you should hit when you are down there
glendora mountain road, through glendora ridge road to Mt baldy- just bikes and bicycles, mostly!
hwy 330 to 18 to big bear is a favorite
angeles crest hw2
and even little mullholland hwy is good.
