Baseball '26

Nice to beat the evil rich Blue team.

Angels, 5 in a row! :thumbup Losses, however. :thumbdown

Our starting pitching has been really (shocklingly) good, and the games close, but we lose 'em in the bull pen. Instead of the closers showing them the door, they're hold it open for them.

Angels...the curse of Ohtani will haunt until someone demolishes the Big A?

Fuck the Angels.jpg

Oh, no, we were struggling before, during, and after Ohtani.

I don't miss Ohtani, to be honest. It was great to see him play when he was here, but there was no way we could have afforded him. And no way we could have guaranteed him a ring.

With his current contract, the Dodgers are on the hook for ~$68M per year, over 10 years, AFTER he has left. AFTER he's no longer generating any revenue, AFTER he's not pulling in any fans to the seats. They can afford it, but its still a big nut to the payroll.

I fully expect Ohtani to go back to Japan after his contract. Dunno what income tax is like in Japan, but it's probably better than California.

We didn't trade Ohtani in his last year because he was worth keeping just for the income. One thing I've learned about baseball, players are a dime a dozen, and it's a crapshoot whether they will work out or not, so it never bothered me that we didn't trade him away. We could have never got a decent enough haul for him anyway.

Ohtani brought, net, roughly. 300-500K extra visitors to the park each year. We were at 3M per year for the longest time, now we're down to about 2.5M+. And, yes, a lot of them were Japanese.

We're doing OK this year. Starting pitching is really good so far. The games have been close, we've lost a couple due to stupid things. Trout seems to be back in form and energy, hopefully that will last.

I always hope for a 50/50 year. I don't expect the playoffs, not this year. We're still in a transition year with the new TV shenanigans, the CBA looming at the end of the year (which is why Suzuki only got a 1 year contract, and why we did not make any long term deals).

Hopefully, next year, our kids will be seasoned vets with 3-4 years beneath their belts, some sense of stability of revenue going forward and with the new CBA to set expectations. Then, maybe, we can spend a little money to push us up and over and into the playoffs.

Fingers crossed!

I'm still an A's fan. For some reason. The team is playing Amazing!! Yesterday they had three homers in the first seven pitches, what!!!!??!!! Big Amish is a bad ass at the plate and on first. Bangaleers is a great catcher and hitter as well. Gelof made an amazing catch in center last night too. The team is in first and playing the second place Rangers again today. It's early of course but I'm letting myself enjoy the good solid playing.

And because the thread is titled "Baseball -26" I'm going to mention our Sonoma Dragons beating Justin Sienna on Thursday, 2-1. We've struggled a bit but are improving. Rematch at their park is today, gonna be a tough one, they are really good. They're first baseman literally looks like Lawdog Lawrence Butler, they even call him Lawdog. He was smoking balls and we were lucky none of them left the park. A little dad bragging, bubba_s kid #3 is the Dragons team captain, shortstop, lead off batter, stolen base leader, hits leader, doubles leader, and a bunch of other stuff like that. Dad brag off.

Lastly, I hope to get to at least one A's game this year. Pregaming at Drake's is a must. Hopefully they still have that six dollar six pack we got last year!!

That’s cool as hell, proud dad! Best of luck to your son on his baseball journey! ⚾
My cousin was invited to Spring Training with the Arizona Diamondbacks this season, and he did well, but he started the season in the minors again. It’s a process!

I know the A’s are doing well, and I’m happy for the players. They got handed a raw deal, what with having no home name, an crappy owner, and having to play in a minor league ballpark. I have a hard time supporting them as a team, though, due to my animus toward their ownership. I am a Giants fan, but I’m also an Oakland resident, going on 45 years now. The whole thing just left a bad taste in my mouth 🙁

Congrats to your cousin, that's fookin awesome. Lil bubba_s will not be making it past high school for baseball. Maybe he'll join his older bro on the men's league team...

Yeah, spent my entire sports life at that beautiful stadium. I'm heartbroken but can't make myself like other teams. My buddy's son just up and decided he'd be a Boston fan. What??

I'm a sucker I guess. But none of the teams that left get much of my money any longer. Can't afford Warriors games, Raiders games and holy shit the A's tickets in Sac are NOT cheap. If the A's actually make it to vegas I probably won't be able to watch them. I suppose that could. change things...

At least we have both Marquez brothers crashing out of the sprint this morning. 😆😆

Totally awesome the kid is rocking.
I see it as info vs a brag Dad. You should be damn proud!

More "Information" 😁 He's also playing open mic next wednesday at Hopmonk Tavern here in Sonoma. Singing and playing his guitar, including one of his original songs. He'll get a big crowd as Kyle Petty will also play that night, he's bringing 60 peeps with him.

Okay, now you’re just bragging :x

:laughing

That’s a pretty good double bill! I’d wander on up for that if I wasn’t going to be out of town!

Yeah, sorry for the thread jack! BARF is my only "Social media" site, forgive me 😇

Back to baseball!!

I'm a Giants fan, remember? It's totally A-OK to talk about stuff other than baseball here :laughing

The show was freekin awesome. Lil bubba got to play just before Mr. Petty went on. He got to play in front over 100 people, including a bunch of his classmates and a ton of Kyle's friends who are doing a seven state charity ride back to North Carolina.

Back to baseball, your Sonoma Dragons will take on the kids from American Canyon again this afternoon. I think they will secure a playoff birth with a win today but I am not totally sure. Go Dragons!
