This thread is like Aunt So-and-so. Always smoking and always pickled, and always alive!

...And it took a year-and-a-half before Ruggia's pics got posted. Long live the original "Sultan of Scuff"!!

This is my R1 -03

It was used as a testbike at Öhlins since it was new. Engine is build by Yamaha France to WSBK spec. I payd about us$15.000 for the bike in early 2005 when they changed bike. Everything about this bike is special and some pretty serious riders have tested on this bike like Max biaggi and Valentino Rossi.

It got Mag-wheels and i also got an endurace swingarm.

They did not let me keep the Yamaha M1-swing that was mounted the first time I went to ÖHlins to look at the bike - You Bastards!

BTW: This years (2005) testbike is for sale right now for 200.000Sek (About us$25.000) An that bike is a real killer :)

This pic is 2 days old. I took the bike for a testride. Hey - it´s spring in Stockholm

Nice thread. Until the flaming started. Here's a photo from a magazine (circa 1989) of Jean-Phillippe Ruggia dragging elbow on a 250 GP bike... NINETEEN EIGHTY-NINE!!!

If my memory serves correct, he's the first guy to do it.

ummm... you may be right, but i always thought that it was luca cadalora... also on a 250. perhaps they were doing that at about the same time.

i don't know if it's just fond memories, but i swear, the best gp racing was from about 86-90 or so... the bikes were the best looking, they were all two-strokes, and the riders were all characters.

i don't know.

maybe i'm just old.

you and me both

that pic was 88 or 89, it was big news when Jean Philipe Ruggia did it, then Luca did it later that year as well. And yes, I feel those were some of best years, the 250's were ultra competitive, and the 500's were spitting riders off like a bad habit as the Americans were dirt-tracking around the course.

Ruggia was first.

Yeah. I remember a quote regarding the all-too-common highsides (see shoelace's avatar) back then. I think it was Wayne Rainey said it...
"Traction, traction, traction, spit."
Wicked, evil machines, man. I miss those days...
