Transitioning from R6 (me) and R1 (husband) to a more upright sitting position bike that can carry a passenger. Mountain road riding, paved only (not dual sport), sporty type bike.
Suggestions, and why.

Why not change the bars on your bikes? Much cheaper than buying another bike.

I dig my multistrada. It does have a small fairing and is heavy though.

It eats up the miles like a touring bike and is plenty capable in the twisties.
It is a tall bike though so depending on inseam it might not work. I am 6-1" and not a problem.

I am looking at supplementing it with a KTM 990R for more serious twists and turns which is naked per your thread title.

Engineering suggests not significantly raising the bars. I figure people like me is why naked sport was invented. šŸ¤”šŸ˜Š
I'm looking for a significant change in seating position, sadly the aging process dictates this.

What about ā€œengineeringā€ suggests that?

Naked bikes are simply the very first kind of bikes that appeared on this planet. They really weren’t ā€œinventedā€.

Now, if your fairing would get in the way of your new bar or if your seat or pegs or cables and wiring would also need to be changed or altered, that adds to the effort involved. But at least you would still be riding a bike you are familiar with.

I once had a Suzuki GS650G. I put different bars on it, added a fairing, raised the seat height, and changed the foot pegs and shifter and rear brake controls. It fit me like a glove.

I mean, if the sport fairing doesn't get in the way, what can it harm to try some bar raisers? Aren't those supposed to be easy to install? The fairing blocking the bars on sharp turns is about the only thing I can think of putting a damper on it.

WHY IS THIS BIKE STILL FOR SALE??????

Suzuki GSX-S1000GX+
17" wheels, former GSXR engine, more leg room than the R1/R6 bikes, familiar inline 4 engine, comfortable Japanese sport bike

New?
Used?
Liter?
So many to choose from. DL1000, R1250RS, S1000XR, Multi, GSX-S1000GX, Ninja 1000SX..........
I'm a big fan of the sport touring genre with modded bars if needed. Upright ergos, flick around the corners agility, big enough for 2 up and eating miles.

Although it's not a naked, my wife and I put 60K miles on our Yamaha FJR1300 and loved every mile. Lots of fun and very capable sport touring machine. Modified for comfortable >400 mile days. Reliable as well. You won't be disappointed!

The Ducati st4s currently in the classifieds
I had a Ducati ST2 for many years and it was a great all around street bike. The ST4S is similar, but better.

I would also look into a Ducati Scrambler in one of its many variants.

Would any of the big adventure bikes work? For many years only BMW and KTM had good ones, but many other manufacturers are now making decent ones too.

Indeed, Sport Touring could be the answer. I will be the 2-up on thus bike.

How comfortable is it for your passengers on long day rides? /s

The included pillion seat is pretty decent, especially compared to the sportbike wedgie seats. The passenger sits higher than the pilot.
