Best (cheap) Supermoto for a beginner?

I highly recommend a drz400sm for a first bike.. I wish I did that. I just picked up mines for 2700 with new tires and its an )%.. the tank has a coupe dings and plastics are scratched.. But with these bikes you dont really care.. It would only cost me a few hundred if I wanted it to look completely new; meaning all new plastics and a tank. Plus its fun.. and parts are tons.

you didnt happen to buy that from JP did you?

nevermind...not my old bike! but back on topic...id be looking for a street legal xr400 for 1500 to 2k....slap some decent rubber on the 18/21 set up... really you don't need 17's to have a blast anywhere! eff the e-start...kicking builds character LOL.

you can save some coin by getting an 'S' model DRZ, instead of an 'SM'. the supermoto has a different swingarm, shock, forks, and front brakes. all these matter not one bit for a beginning rider.
get a DRZ 400 S, and beat the crap out of it. if you want to go fast in the twisties, they make very acceptable rubber in dirt-bike tire size (SM's have 17" front and rear, 'S' has 21" front, 19" rear).
if you still think you need an 'SM', you can always sell the 'S' bike for what you paid.

i just picked up a KTM 640 for 2.5k. if you put street tires on it it would be an alright supermoto..... i guess..... XD

I bought my 2005 DRZ400SM with 3,200 miles on it for 3,900 bucks. It was pretty much in cherry condition. They are out there, you just have to watch and wait.
