It's probably worth checking a bit further, but from the little bit of research I've been able to do it seems that only 10-15% of day traders come out ahead after a full year. Not great odds.
Well, I'd say the #1 goal for a new trader should be to simply not blow up their account. The game is you against the smartest people on the planet who have huge informational advantage over you. If you can come away from that after year #1 with only a small loss, but lots of accumulated knowledge, that is actually winning. Losses as you learn is a normal thing, seasoned traders call that "paying your tuition to the market."
