Two-up technique

One by David Hough.

FWIW, I took my visiting sister-in-law for a trip through the east bay hills the other day. She'd never ridden on the back of a moto before. We had a little chat about what to expect before we started - my wife coached her a bit too - then off we went. Setting expectations, riding smoothly, and communicating are all key for making it work well. She had a great time, and is looking forward to trying it again.

BTW, riding on the freeway is not all that fun for a passenger. It's noisy. The cars are close. Worst of all it's boring. Consider expanding your repertoire. :ride

I had great success with the BMW F800ST. I have heard the next size up works great as well.

My GF loves the FJR. Once I put a top case on there with back rest pad she fell in love with the big Yamaha. Plenty of storage with saddlebags and top case to fit all the stuff that comes with the GF. Best part, it's still sporty enough to play well in the twisties while still comfortable enough to ride 1600+ miles only stopping for gas :thumbup

What's yer budget?

V-Strom and F800ST are the most comfy bikes I've been on the back of, and they're still fun for the tight stuff solo. In general, banana seats are way comfier than split seats. A Givi topcase with the back rest helps hugely with passenger comfort.

Or have her take the MSF and get her own damn bike. :teeth

THIS....or your head will explode.....

Goldwing, or streetglide/roadglide/Ultra....period.
Maybe a BMW 1200 RT, I work with EagleRider, let me know if you wanna rent one.

Forget the BMW 1200LTs, they suck

Vstrom is a great 2 up bike, my wife and I have ridden 20 k on it 2 up. I have 80 k on that bike with no troubles. We last did a 1700 mile run in 78 days around California and loved it.

2nding the Ninja 650. Works GREAT two up, only issue is the stock seat, which as you can see in mysteryvil's pic, he has the corbin, and seems to love it. As for the bike itself, no issues passing 2-up in 6th uphill, and thats really all I ask. Plus, as has been said, WAY fun solo!
Very true!

Mrs. and I have done 5+ hour rides; we've done Friday Night rides; we've droned along slab and chased solo riders through the twisties. Very comfortable (thank you, Corbin!), and more than ample power.

How often do you ride two up and where? All the time Goldwing heavy; but works better on the interstate than anything. Part time lots of options. I like the Sport Tour bikes that are out. Note some are sport-tour and some are tour-sport, depends how your ride. Lots of old ST1100 Honda's around and they run for ever. I ride a ST1300 that works for me. $$ no problem BMW is coming out with the 6 cylinder.

i have been looking and i fell in love with GS800. but $$$ is the problum right now so i was thinking to go with honda or yama with less maintance cost.

My wife enjoys riding on the back of my RT - and it's still sporty enough to have some fun on.

For sure the big fj, various BMW's and the ST are all good choices, but there are more sporty options depending on your goals / ride range.

Over 1/2 of the replies here are real... Nice!

FJR FTW! :ride
My wife/sister & I have gone through a few bikes, but this has been the best so far; smooth, comfortable, roomy, powerful, and it's quite nimble for such a big heavy pig! She digs it especially when I get on the gas. :laughing

i would not mind having a sporty looking bike... as long as i can take my better half (wife) for some bike tours.

As a passenger and a rider I really like the back of a BMW. They seem to really gear toward the two up life style.
I work at Dubbelju Motorcycle Rentals in SF, feel free to bring your wife and sit on a few bikes. She can really get the idea of what her posture will be while behind you this way.
I got stuck on the back of a Multistrada-HATED IT! But that is because I am a short but not small girl. Another woman who was about 110 lbs loved it.
If it was up to me I'd push for an R1150RT (affordable on the used market) or an R1200RT.
Heated passenger seat :thumbup
