Hey,
I have a Bilt helmet, and It works perfectly for me BUT i would like to invest in a better helmet for christmas.

I have the Bilt Fusion, and at slower speeds like 25-30 its fine, but once I start going any faster it starts to whistle alot, Im just going to put in earplugs for now, and thats not the reason i want a new helmet,

But does anyone have any mid-price recommendations?

Shoei, or Arai helmets are far out of my price range I think...

im thinking about $200-300 for the helmet

I have a Suomy Vandal that I think is awesome...

Maybe you can find some older Shoei RF-1000's...

Okay I'll check those out, do all helmets whistle at decent speeds?
The reviews of the one I have complain about it alot :)

I've been running HJCs for a few years now, and they are not 'cheapy', just not as overpriced as Arai, Shoei, etc. And I've owned those brands as well.

The HJCs just fit my head better, which should be the main consideration. I use earplugs all the time, so noise (which is a consideration regardless of helmet brand) is negligible. :thumbup

I really like my Suomy Apex. You can find it for ~$300, it's a pretty light helmet, and the weight is distributed really well. The lining is pretty good, definitely above average, and it ventilates pretty well. It's not the quietest helmet however, and there's one thing that bugs me, don't know if it's just mine or a design defect, but when I try to close my top vent, it whistles. Luckily I usually like to just leave it open.

If I were looking for another helmet with the same budget as before, I would probably just buy another Apex and call it a day.

Since we are on helmet recommendations... The helmet I'm looking to replace is the HJC CS-R1 Dagger (Link: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/14/67/905/25002/ITEM/HJC-CS-R1-Daggar-Helmet.aspx

). I'm looking to get a helmet that has an interior drop-down visor due to wearing prescription glasses (I know its a convenience thing but its what I want). I've been looking at a bunch of helmets at multiple stores like MS, CG, and NewEnough. Some of the helmets I've been looking at:

As you can see a common theme, preferably a red/white coloe helmet. Would like some recommendations as well :D I was hoping to find a Shoei with this feature, but they don't have one. Also, where is another good place to get helmets at online? that carries Shark helmets for example?

Would be greatly appreciated!

I started riding with a Bilt Racer helmet, but when I realized just how godawful loud it was compared to other helmets, I personally switched to the Scorpion EXO-500 Oil helmet (the very one you see above in fact). I can fully and honestly recommend that helmet. It is comfortable, quiet enough, the integrated tinted visor is really nice to have, and ventilation is very efficient. My one complaint if I had one is the drop down tinted visor could be darker, but for the price you can't go wrong. Just my :2cents

I just ordered one of those a few minutes ago. They sell a darker visor for it for $20 that I also ordered. I was trying on helmets a couple months ago and I really like it for a $200 helmet. It's light when I go to work and dark when I come home, so the drop down visor is also a nice feature for me. They seem to run pretty small compared to other brands. I ordered an xl exo500 and it was a good fit. Strange considering a medium Arai also fits me well. I would recommend that you put a list together of helmets in your price range, with the features you want, and find stores that have them in stock and try them all on. It's great to do your homework to learn about features and quality, but ultimately it needs to fit YOUR head well.
