Best motorcycle... for the zombie apocalypse?

prod_61762.jpg

And someone in the chair who's good on the gun...

I'm a good shot, I got your back... and with you as pilot, that would be one HELL of a ride!! :thumbup

I'd want an older adventure bike... something without computers, that can go off road when needed.

These guys currently make diesel KLRs for the military. http://www.hayes-dt.com/index.htm

DUDE these bikes....one of those 650's would kick ass in an apocalypse :thumbup

if something like that happened, as soon as I got clear of zombies my very first priority would be finding an abandoned dealership and stealing a dream bike. At first I think a dual sport would be the smart choice, but once I found/made a home base I would start collecting brand new superbikes and cans of 91 super unleaded.

And why?

Room to carry weapons? Fuel economy in the wasteland? Durability? Maintainability? Resilience in the face of slick zombie guts?

Yes.

KLR has been the same design since the 80's. Even the new style has essentially the same frame and motor. Parts will be easier to find than for most other bikes. They're easy to work on (carburetors). The ignition is separate from the charging system so it will run even without a battery. They get good mileage, are durable, and can carry a lot.

The abrams would be a m1a1. :laughing

This, is an m1a.

Nice rifle, I have one just like it. Don't like that Zeiss crap though, prefer the S&B. Yes M1a is a misnomer, m1 abrams would be more appropriate. But there's also the original m1, the m1a1 and the m1a2..... So let's not split hairs, lets get back to killing zombies :twofinger And I still think the stryker (or even my pickup truck) would be better than a motorcycle. I mean, have any of you even watched zombieland? lol, take it easy.

dr650 or klr650. Can find them easily, can go anywhere, and will happily run with all the electronics broken on shitty gas. Only need hand tools to repair almost everything, and can do it quickly. I guess a shaft drive would be less likely to fail on you, but once it goes, you're totally fucked unless you can find a blown up copy of your bike. With a chain you can steal or scavenge them pretty easily.

As anyone knows, small guns are no use in a zombie world. I'd arm mine with a few hand grenades if I could find em, but would let those with jeeps and hummers be the armored carriers-- motorcycles are scout vehicles.

oh oh oh me me!!! can i be backup gunner?!?! i can shoot, and i'm sure i can drop a bunch of shuffling zombie. sidecars are the bomb so with mad fire power and zombies to blow away it would be cooler than cool!!!

heh, i sound like a psycho. :laughing

Anything you got will work in a pinch. However, I would want a bike that has;

1. Quite - Loud pipes do NOT save lives in the even of a Zombie Attack.
2. Off Road - Needs to be able to do anything
3. No computers
4. Knobby Tires
5. STORAGE - Or capable of carrying a lot
6. 2up - So you can have someone running shotgun :)

^^^ This. Diesel engines can run on any fluid that burns, as well as a number of pulverized solids, like coal dust.

But failing that, my XR650R will soon have a 4.5 gallon tank. I'll go with that.

Are the zombies going to be thoughtful enough to keep the refineries and gas stations operating? If not, I'm not feeling the long-term utility of a gas-powered vehicle.

Finding fuel and regular supplies of drinking water are most likely part of the post apocalyptic challenge. Depending on what caused the zombie outbreak, a new fuel source might also be discovered. Who knows, maybe radioactive zombie guts would be a fuel source.

Excellent list! However, I could see the need for a very loud bike in reserve. That way someone could run a distraction - for semi-suicidal distraction runs I would want:
1. very very loud
2. good maneuverability
3. Two up so someone can be throwing fire bombs
4. sturdy and reliable

Don't think speed wouldn't be a major issue - just need to be able to outpace a zombie shuffle. Reliable would be #1 important - don't really want to break down mid mission and become zombie dinner. Humm, better have a way to put this contraption into stealth mode too.
