I need a new riding jacket. My speed and strength jacket has served its purpose for over 10 years but I'm looking for a jacket with more features and a real safety rating. I'm a terribly sized human being. I'm 5'6", 250 lbs. I'm built like a tube, 48" from chest down to waist. It's difficult to find good fitting clothing. The last jacket was obtained by returns galore with RevZilla (I lived in rural PA).

Do any stores have serious inventory of riding gear in the bay area, other than cycle gear? They basically only stock house brands these days and I'm looking to get some nicer sport riding gear. It's a bit of a trek to sfmoto but I was thinking of trying there and motoguild next.

Thanks.

Have you considered Aerostich? They are considered one of the best and will custom modify your jacket to fit perfectly.

Everytime I see a tread on riding gear I miss Road Rider in San Jose.

But +1 on looking at AeroStich. Yes they are $$$ but last forever. If you just want to give them a try check out used AeroStich on EBay.

Yep, Aerostitch.

If you're going to go with Areostich, get a two piece. (I had a one piece Roadcrafter and now have a Transit). As easy to wear, can get it roomy enough to fit over work clothes if you commute, but the added benefit of being able to take off the Jacket when you get to the coffee shop or restaurant. The one piece gives you the choice of staying fully geared for the meal, stripping it all off for the meal, of hanging the top half from your waist like a weird floppy conjoined sibling.

The reality of buying gear if your not a 50th percentile individual (160 pounds, 70 inches tall) is that there will be returns.

Agree with two piece for most riding. I have both an R3 and a Darian with AD1 pants. This is the combination I took to the Alps when we stopped for coffee twice a day and lunch. The R3 is perfect if you are going to work and back or doing a long ride when you will be taking the R3 off when you get to your location.

if you’re a short chunky money, rev-it has some larger sizes. the trip to moto guild should be worth it.

i have some fat people gear that might fit you and it’s aerostich. no crying, im calling myself fat, too)
if you wanna come to sf and try on the jacket and pants i have you’re welcome to do so.

To dogpile on the Yay, Aerostitch ! comments . . . frequently (yearly?) they have local "pop-up" events where they have a local storefront for a week or two or maybe just a weekend, and they can custom fit you to one of their suits to be custom ordered in your size.

They occasionally bring to these events "off the rack" suits or gear for sale at a discount, cash and carry, no ordering needed, which is how I obtained my bright orange R3 suit - I identify as a traffic cone!

The last couple times I’ve been in Cycle Gear there’s been “upscale” brands on hand.

I stop regularly and they have a large selection of gear.

Harley dealers have a large selection of riding gear, generally decent quality. It’s oriented to a street rider, not sport.
