Best zombie/post-apocolyptic flicks?

World War Z is supposed to be out next year...

and totally changed to a different story.

its no longer the aftermath and recount of the war but a group trying to stop it from happeing...instead of mulitple stories recounting it and showing it from different angles with loys of socio-political underpinning, its now one story that takes place at the start of it all and their race to stop it.

aside from the name, nothing is the same

I always thought what WWZ should have been was a really god show on a premium station like showtime or HBO. with each episode being a different chapter. the story is to god and too dense to be reduced to a two hour movie.

brad pitts production company bought the rights and changed it around a lot. instead of being something fresh and as zombie flicks go totally different, they apparently are making the same old zombie flick...what a shame because the use of a zombie story as a way to explore socio-political ideas was such a great idea for the book

How bout that semi recent Will Smith movie? I think it was called I am Legend, that was with Zombies right? I thought that was alright.

the problem with that one is it didnt know what kind of movie it wanted to be. had the zombies not been terribly animated CGI zombies then maybe, but I couldnt get past the bad special effects.

which was weird because zombies can juts be people acting lol it doesnt need special effects.

I liked the first half of that movie a lot

I agree.

Washington Sq Park, the home in I Am Legend, in the bad old 80's was a place to score some dope and get mugged at night.

If I saw a bunch of shuffling bodies there for real, it would be freaky. It could have been a modern day Death Wish or The Warriors.

Instead, the director turned it into Pandora with a bunch of grey instead of blue CGI running around. He forgot that the primary reason why zombies are popular is how closely they mimic real life.

weren't they vampires? couldn't come in the sun, etc?

i guess hybrid zombie vampire, since it was viral? dunno.

i like the story and i thought the cgi was fine and the antagonist was plenty intimidating. but that could be because WS did a decent job of acting out his half of the interaction.

Well, yeah, but we're being liberal with interpretation since there were no Zombies in 28 Days later, either.

In that case I Am Legend rocked :laughing Especially the alternate ending, happy endings are always good wouldn't yall agree.

Dawn isn't on Instant but you can order it. Night of the Living Dead is available on Instant. Netflix does have its perks, especially for people like me who like old originals :laughing

Tom Savini's 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead is so great. I like it better than the original. The original I think of like a Universal Horror movie like Frankenstein or Dracula (even though it came out much later). The remake fits better with Romero's Dawn and Day

this right here is the most depressing thing I've read all day.

Clutches his copies of WWZ and ZSG close mutterning "precioussssss"

aside from the name, nothing is the same

Let's not forget Vincent Price in "Last Man On Earth", with "vampires" that are more zombie-like. The depression of survival, the collapse of society being no big deal until it hits family, and learning first hand that life and environment evolves...sometimes to ones own detriment.

its no longer the aftermath and recount of the war but a group trying to stop it from happening...instead of multiple stories recounting it and showing it from different angles with lots of sociopolitical underpinning, its now one story that takes place at the start of it all and their race to stop it.

Yeah. This absolutely sucks assmonkeys.
I was *really* looking forward to this. Dammit!

Hopefully, someone will do a "remake" in 10 years and get it right. For fuck's sake, why even buy the rights to a book if you're just going to scrap the story?

On that note, if you haven't heard it yet, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU GET A COPY OF THE AUDIO BOOK FOR WORLD WAR Z. Holy mother of god, it's practically like having the movie. A lot of good/great actors on there make it worth having.

Not only that, but HENRY FUCKING ROLLINS:

EDIT:
Just did some Googling and found this. Maybe not completely ruined
UK Metro said:
Pitt plays Gerry Lane, a worker at the United Nations Post-war Commission, collecting the stories and experiences of those who have survived a zombie attack in the new movie.
