Between Civic Si vs Mazda Speed 3

You sure she didn't have a hand in some of those failures?

Constantly lugging the engine in high gear and low rpm's, like many women do, can damage the main bearing. Especially if the oil hasn't warmed up yet.

As for the replacement engine, did she follow the break-in procedures?

And the synchros? Does she know how to shift?

Misogynistic much? :wtf

My daughter has only ever driven stick, raced karts for a while, laps Thunderhill in my EVO faster than most and is a pretty decent mechanic.

So thanks for the assumptions but no she didn't contribute to the failures. :rolleyes

The Ford 2.3 is a POS with two well known failure modes 1) blown mains and 2) warped heads :thumbdown

Besides if OP is considering a Mazda 3 then he'd get the same thing at a lower price if he chose the Ford badged version. :thumbup

Mazda: Zoom zoom :rofl not so much

Just checking. :laughing And if it's OK for women to say that men don't know how to cook, dress, or express their feelings, then it's OK for me to say that most women don't know how to treat their cars. :laughing

I picked up a GTI in Feb as a fun commuter car but I cross shopped the Focus ST, Speed 3, and Civic (briefly).

The Focus is a blast but I didn't like the interior but I'd give it the vote for the "purest" sporty drive of the group. Well damped, well controlled, good components. But I don't like Ford interiors.

The Speed 3 was a torque monster in comparison but the torque steer killed it for me. Made it fun though :teeth It felt a little long in the tooth in design and interior but was also fun. Not as crisp as the Focus.

Civic felt noticeably down on power (because it is compared to the others) and was quite loud (as V4 said). Without the turbo, you have to spin it up which you may love or hate - you decide how you want to drive it. I don't like spinning it up all the time (in commute duty) so it wasn't for me.

I settled on the GTI instead of the R32 due to the price difference and the relative small differences in performance. Yes - the R32 is better but the AWD adds some weight and complexity I don't like. The GTI felt right and had the better interior of the them all. Now there's a NEW GTI out now that you may want to consider. Seems to be knocking the Focus and Speed 3 off the pedestal...but if the german car stigma is too much, go with the Focus as the most, err, focused drivers car of the group.

Have fun - this should be a fun purchase for a fun car to do fun stuff :thumbup

drive preowned civics, gti, mazdas with 60k miles or more...

i think an si sticker is like 22k and mazda is 24k...
i didnt even bother to look at the ford because its ugly, and i think the gti sticker was at 25 i believe?

and plus the si and speed 3 both are on the top of my list so I'm stuck between the two

Base Scion FR-S is $24500 msrp, so not much different from the Mazda. Obviously a very different car w.r.t. handling, seating, cargo etc.

see what you're in for in the long haul...ask for service records...see which needs more frequent maintenance compared to the others and what was needed..

kinda get an idea what you will be in for in the long run of ownership of a new one..

2013 si sedan are nice...i wish i waited...:(

Thought you wanted a new car?
Good luck finding an S2K that hasn't been abused by some kid.

You went from a Mazda 3 to an S2K? :laughing

Are you sure you know what you want? :dunno :teeth

haha i guess not.... but no really i do, just that an s2k popped in my head even tho i know its not practical but i think these opinions have helped, thank you people of BARF :hail

It'd definitely be the most fun choice, but it depends if you need a back seat and a hatch.

Which is why a used Miata would be a better bet.

$20k will buy you a virtually brand new car that will easily do 200k more trouble free miles. That $$ would buy you a top of the line 2011 Grand Touring model with about 20k miles on the clock.

Sure, an S2K is a hair faster than a recent series Miata, (14sec 1/4 mile vs. 15sec 1/4 mile), but finding a pristine example for decent money would be far harder.

lol.....can't stand those clowns. Like as if they have any history or reason to fight for something like that. It's just a bunch of dumbass men grasping for something to act tough about, as men always do.
So, Reli, you are neuter? :rofl

Wait, I think that perhaps the "third gender" may be troll (at least in your case it is...)!

To the OP-

Definitely check insurance rates first. I know that at least in my neighborhood, Honda rates are much higher due to higher theft frequency.
