I'm planing a 2 day ride to explore some of the unpaved/off-road possibilities in the Big Sur area, with overnight camping in Prewitt Ridge.

Any ideas for anything I should try/see/ride? (will be riding my 2014 BMW R1200GS Adventure)

(if anyone wants to join me for the ride...the more the merrier)

I did some riding on some dirt trails last time I was down there. There was a nice fire road right north of Andrew Molera campground "coast road" on google maps that comes back out 10 miles or so later that was pretty fun. Not sure what road you have on your map there

Pretty much around the route I highlighted...thought maybe someone knows of other things I should do/ride/see along these areas.
(I can email the gpx/GPS file if anyone is interested)

personally, I'd pop over to Almaden and Uvas rd, then shoot up Mt Madonna Rd to Pole Line Rd, on your way over.

Did this route this past weekend, Prewitt Ridge is really nice, I had an amazing camping spot right on the edge of the ridge with an amazing view (map, gpx file, photos and video: http://tompino.com/r1200gs-adventure-ride-to-big-sur/)

Great pics! :thumbup I now need to go here. None of these photos came from (old) Coast rd? I thought I recognized some of those vistas.

Ahh fuck I lived there eight years.

CHECK with USFS before lighting a fire. There was a very bad fire a month or two ago ( which is supposedly the rainy season) but very little rain. It's basically fire season now, which is not usual.

The first photo is from Old Cost Rd...and if you are going there let me know, I'll defiantly camp there again.

I had a "fire permit" which I printed of the gov site...thought that that would be enough.

I did see some evidence of fire on the hills, lot's of burned trees.

Wow! Awesome trip! I'm thinking of doing the same. Were there other campers there?

Yes there were other campers there...there are a lot of spots to camp there, if you like to be near someone you can do that, if you like more privacy there are plenty of more secluded spots...I just wanted to be on the highest hill, and on the edge of it so I can have the best view.

I am defiantly camp there again soon...also, there are a few fire-roads there that I'd like to explore.

Good stuff-I aim to head up there sometime this year! The .gpx files are always cool to have, too. Thanks!

Yea it's a great place to camp and ride, you can probably spend half a day just riding the fire roads on these hills (maybe a full day)

One of our favorites!

I actually found a similar style spot in Carrizo Plain...a spot right on the edge of a cliff overlooking Soda Lake (didn't camp there yet, just rode by it...need to plan a camping ride there).

This weekend?

I was thinking of heading that very direction this weekend(5/10-11)
Anyone interested?

I'm planing a 2 days ride next weekend (may 17 - 18) from the EastBay to Mendocino National Park and back, with either camping or motel. This is the route (this one starts at Napa, I'm going to actually start at Hayward): https://db.tt/E2zTneuA

The whole ride is going to be around 300 - 350 paved miles, and around 70 - 100 miles fairly easy unpaved
(I am going to be riding my 2014 R1200GS Adventure with 80/20 tires)
