Blatently inappropriate rep **Moved by Budman***

The person didn't post that he was going to kill you. He just gave you direction. It's up to you how fast (it's inevitable) you follow it. Next time just PM a mod instead of starting another public snitch thread.

Exactly!

I still haven't decided whether I should laugh or cry about this. Could you walk me home too after you pick-up Sane_Man, Mort? K. Thanks.

:rolleyes

There never has been a good reason to facilitate anonymous harassment. This is another example.

What do those green boxes mean anyway?I have a red one and I dont know what it means."Red is pretty."(As I rub my avatars nipples)

I posted "repost" in a thread that was a repost, and someone neg rep'd it with "die."

Who the fuck writes some shit like that? Lots of people on BARF know each other and see each other in real life...I am not cool with someone who might know where I'm riding leaving messages like "die" randomly and anonymously.

I want to know who these people are.

:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry

Sounds like whining, funny how some people can dish it out, but not take it

This whole thing makes me :rofl

it determines weather you go to barf heaven or hell. the more green boxes you have the more likely you are to go to barf heaven. the red boxes... well lets not talk about them.

:rolleyes

Here is a reality for you... The world doesn't always agree with you. Not everyone is required to love and cherish you. It gets old pretty quick when we have to respond to one guy who constantly cries about every little neg. rep. he gets that he deems unfair and/or inappropriate. The nature of forum communication is one that anyone can comment on whatever you might choose to post.

Anonymous harassment? I posted it under my Username, just waiting for you to neg. rep. me. How is that anonymous? I don't know, man... I have used the same username on this board and on others. I have meet many BARFers and riders from other boards as well in meat space. You can find out exactly where I ride, pose and what I look like from the trip reports. Who is anonymous here?

I left you a positive rep., full of sarcasm (with respect to what you posted in another thread), the other day anonymously. I guess that's okay with you, when it's a green box. You'll take it anyway you can get it.

In that other thread... You wrote something to the effect of "I am a really nice guy in real life, but when I am on the Internet, I feel like I am licensed to be an ass." Yes, I positively repped you with the comment of "Haha, you said it."

Align your on-line persona more closely with your real-life persona... You'll like yourself better, and others here would too.

Some of you really need to get out more often. This whole bitching and whining about neg reps is just as juvenile as post whoring. Slydrite said it best.

The interweb is a harsh mistress. :rolleyes

Overall I've been enjoying the rep thing a lot, it gives me a button to push every time I see a thread that makes me go 'hey, that's cool' or 'what a jackass'... it reminds me of micro-payments, all websites everywhere should have a button to push to say we like something that would donate like 5 cents to it. As it is, around here I have definitely found that the green boxes help point out who is likely to know wtf they're talking about, and who isn't. Although I have seen a few people around with lots of red boxes who actually seem sorta cool too. Either way it's not something to get in a bunch over. Hell, the internet tells me to die all the time. It's also (anonymously!) told me a whole pile of really upsetting things in my online journal. I deal.

Sorry I was not clear. I didn't mean your post was anonymous harassment.

I was referring to the original "die" rep msg.

Save the "one person constantly crying" BS. I have complained twice about the rep system. The first time, someone was impersonating me, leaving nasty messages for other people with my name attached. This is the only time I have complained about rep I received.

No, I didn't say "I am a really nice guy in real life, but..." or anything similar to that.

I can hardly wait to see when BARF is filled with only people that have 4-5-6 Green squares and no one else. Won't that be special. :rolleyes

As I have stated elsewhere: Here is what to do with negative reputations, mojos and other unnecessary rep-tations that add nothing to the community.

this is the best and simplest solution, IMO....the rep thing seems needlessly silly to me and not much more than a high school style popularity contest...

Looks like this is the right solution (2. Remove Rep. and recreate Mojo.). One "issue" in the transition to rep seems to be, that the previous "invisible-super-mojoed" people now are super-green and some of them are even gloating on this thread. On the other hand, people who haven't been around much are feeling so jealous that they are not super-green.

If you have an opinion on the options.. put it in this thread.

We will be seriously considering our approach so your opinion is valued.

:smoking

I just want to say the system seems slightly INVALID when the old Maiden has MORE of these rep points than BUDMAN.

The MOJO system was FULLY ROCKING because moronic posts could be SQUASHED and the valuable ones made GOLD! Attaching the value to the USER, rather than the POST, has led to some strange behavior. There are users on the board -- grown up individuals, I'm LED to believe -- but people I don't know, who, out of the CLEAR BLUE SKY, were asking me to give them rep points. That's downright PATHETIC. The instances where a user was leaving negative rep and signing another users name was even MORE PATHETIC.

If the MOJO isn't easily restored, I think it would be fine to get rid of the REP points altogether. It really doesn't take more than a few visits to any message board to get a sense of who is contributing useful information, and who is just a JACKASS!! The reputation system seems to go COUNTER to REALITY in some instances. I aint saying WHO, but there are some REAL douchebag types that have bunches of those green squares. So, in that sense, a new user could be MISLED by the reputation system.

These are some of my POINTS. I have others, but need to get down to the liquor store. Am out of SCHLITZ, BRB.

Maybe people shouldn't post their name with positive or negative rep. It would eliminate retribution or undue reward. The reputation system would grind to a halt and be useless if anonymous responses weren't allowed. People won't give negative rep knowing that they are guaranteed negative rep in response. That in itself stifles opinion.

On the other hand, that could also have been considered a flaw. There were two polar extremes, and nothing in-between. The problem as I see is that people are so goddamn convinced they are always right that they don't see the rep system for what it *could* be. A way to correct behaviour that doesn't fit in with the community as a whole.

That underlined part up there is important. A few negs shouldn't get your panties in a twist, as long as you're generally in the green. Having a rep system is totally different from people abusing the rep system. One is just mechanical while the other can be fixed with a few simple tweaks.
