How do you guys think the F800R will stack up against the Street Triple and Ducati 696?

Check it out:

in terms of ugly front, the f800s

in terms of riding, pretty close but the ducati...

the beemer is nice and friendly..

Wow, if you've ridden an F800GS you know what I'm talking about...

This is going to be a great bike!!!

It's a little slow, however. It's a 650cc competitor.

I'd rock it.

Is that fuel cap on the side of the rear tail I see? The tank's relocated? I wonder how and how much it affects the handling.

the F800s have an underseat fuel tank...

the fake tank is where the air box and battery is located...

handles really nice and suspension is plush for me at 200lbs...

It looks like someone punched it in one of it's headlights. :rofl

I hear that bike is BAD ASS tho.

Love my F800ST also; that underseat gas tank does amazing things for flickability.

The ST was a hair quicker in the 1/4 than the 696 that Motorcycle Consumer News tested and a full second slower than the Street Triple. So a kinder, gentler, more expensive naked is what the F800R will likely be.

Thought the R would come with a fully adjustable rear shock and USD fork, which it doesn't, BUT, and this is a huge BUT, the awful ABS on the F800 series is said to be "fixed" on the R, (ie. no more "releasing" in the dry, randomly, over bumps, adding 2 bike lengths to your dry stopping distance).

Don't believe the Duc or the Triumph offer ABS so if you gotta have it for your naked, the BMW will be the only way to go.

If I were to get a mid sized naked, which I'm thinking of to replace the old 1000cc, it would, without question, be the Street Triple R, (if, at 6' 1", I fit on it).

I think I pee'd in my pants...

This and the k1300r make me :nerd

Something in me just clicks when I see the bmw logo on a bike...

Anyhow... looking through the specs... twin engine with 4 valve DOHC... hmm... I am not sure how much I would like the bike...

but damnit.. it's a BMW... I'll NEED to have this bike

at 6'1" you'll fit just fine. (I'm 6'2")
:thumbup

I'm all for any time a manufactor wants to bring a nice naked bike to the States. The F800R looks awesome, I'd love one in white with hard luggage for commuting.

Like this, and some more pictures.....

I think this would be a kick-ass bike. I liked the F650GS a lot when I rode it, and this looks even better with the 17-inch wheels.

Too bad it's a chain drive and not a belt.

I don't think it's going to be much competition to the 696 or Street Triple. Totally different customers. In any case, we probably won't see it here till 2010, if ever.

I think if it had a belt, I'd be 100% in. I hate my chain.

from an aesthetic POV...i think the lines on the bike from side view look terrible. this bike could really use a chin fairing to fill in the gap between the headers and the front wheel.

Not coming to the states, at least that is what BMW told my salesmen

thats what BMw of SF told me a few weeks back when I wnet in and asked about it. they said I was the third person that day to inquire about it.

I like the front end popeye look. I don't like the fat rear plastic by the gas cap under the seat. Also I think the faux gas tank has too much of a hump on it, like the F800GS. I don't think it's coming to the US. The R1200R is much more attractive in my opinion, both aesthetically and performance wise.

How do you guys think the F800R will stack up against the Street Triple and Ducati 696?

I think reasonable and well-off guys will buy an F800R
and young and non-grocery commuter guys will buy Street Triple and Duc 696

so much bike candy makes me hot.. but for hotness strangely the Street Triple is the least hot for me (I don't particularly need the horsepower). It's a wash looks-wise between Duc 696 and F800R.. depends what you want I guess.

Great the F800R is not even coming here, so it's all pointless I guess. Maybe BMW has a point, who is going to buy so many motorcycles here..
