I understand the simple engine rebuild from the bottom up, but i'm looking for books that will reveil the secrets of that extra fraction of a HP. A very experienced engine builder can get a couple more HP out of a regular engine rebuild than an Average Joe due to all the little tricks and tips they know. There are a couple ways to learn all of these tricks, the best is to friend an engine builder and to hang out. I don’t like the idea of hanging around an engine shop to get in their way and to steal their methods. I’m hoping to learn these tricks through multiple books and trial/error method.
Some are probably wondering ‘why not send the engine to a motorcycle shop?’. Full engine rebuilds are starting at $2,000 which includes minimal parts are labor. I can get away with a full rebuild for $580. When things get bad in the engine, the rebuilds could start costing much more due to bad internals. I also love working on anything and everything, heck, I already play around with my own shim-stacks and do all my own suspension work! A motor would be another accolade to add on the long list of skills. So, what are the best books for performance engine rebuilds?
