The fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao is off, promoter Bob Arum told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday, as an attempt to mediate a dispute over blood testing failed.

Promoters had reached a tentative deal in December for the world’s top two fighters to meet on March 13 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. But the fight ran aground over Mayweather’s insistence on Olympic-style drug testing. The sides agreed to mediation this week in Santa Monica, Calif., before retired federal judge Daniel Weinstein, but a solution could not be reached and the sides walked away.

Arum said Pacquiao is planning to fight Yuri Foreman, the World Boxing Association super welterweight champion, on either March 13 or March 20 in a bid for yet another world title. Arum said he wants to put that fight in Las Vegas, but said he still has to negotiate a site and will speak to Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones about holding it in Cowboys Stadium.

Mayweather is expected to pursue a fight for March with former super lightweight champion Paulie Malignaggi.

Sorry, I haven't been following this too closely, but why couldn't Pac-Man just get drug tested immediately after the fight?
 
I've heard that Mayweather never wanted this fight in the first place. People are saying that he's just maneuvering to assure that it doesn't happen without looking afraid to fight pacman.
 
I hate to admit it, but I wish Pacquiao would just agree to the damned tests. If he's clean he could make MW look even more like a chump by beating his ass. As it stands, there's a shadow of doubt.

From my understanding of the circumstances Mayweather was very adamant about pre-fight Olympic style testing. In fact, it was two days prior to bout or the fight was off. Pacman&Co agreed to the testing, but not two days prior for several reason. The counter offer placed was to test post-fight, but Mayweather&Co would not agree to the new terms.
 
2 days before: I can see reasons why a clean boxer wouldn't want to have his blood drawn then.

immediately after: I can't see why the other boxer wouldn't accept this as an acceptable alternative.

Bummer, I was really looking forwarding to seeing this fight.
 
I'm thinking this is just a build up like a roller coaster so when it happens even more money will be thrown at it.

Mayweather wanted there to be random testing, as often as the testers want. That includes right up to the day of the fight, when no other fight in NV as ever gone through such strict testing, and Manny said hell no to that cause he thinks it's a ploy from Mayweather's camp to fuck with him and he's superstitious like every other asian, and also didn't take too kindly to insults from Mayweather's pops saying he was dirty and took all kinds of steroids that's why he has titles in 7 weight classes. Now Manny is suing mayweather's camp for 10's of million of $$$ for defamation. Manny has agreed to blood testing 1 month ahead of the fight and also immediately after, so it really seems like Mayweather is the little bitch here. That's just my 2cents, others think Manny might really have something to hide although he's never tested for anything before. Blood testing right after the fight pretty much removes all doubt whether anyone was on the juice or not, and Mayweather knows that, but I think he shit his pants at the idea of getting his ass whipped......
 
Pacquiao wouldn't agree to a blood test right before the fight because the last time he had that done, he said it affected his performance and consequently lost that fight against Morales, he has a perfectly valid excuse. I can't believe these two fighters are just throwing away millions of dollars and the chance to be in a historic fight over ego.

Bottom line, Pacquiao will continue to shine regardless of who he fights. He's at the peak of his career right now and Mayweather has been on a downhill slope for quite some time due to his personality and boxing style. Hopefully this will show in the revenue of the upcoming fights.
 
As has been stated, this was clearly a ploy by Mayweather to punk out of the fight. As usual, Mayweather looks like a complete asshole. I'm glad Pacman didn't back down to Mayweather's stupid demands. I hope he wins his lawsuit against that loud mouth douchebag, too.

Bottom line is Paquiao superstitious is just another way to avoid getting tested. If your clean then have no problem being tested. The way i see it is paquiao is stopping the fight. If he doesnt agree to the type of testing its for a reason. Flunk superstition its a damn needle that goes in for 30 secs. they say maywether is doing this to avoid the fight but all paquiao has to do is agree to the testing and its settled.

Ball is in Paquiao's court.. i wouldnt blame maywether at the moment for preventing the fight.

IMO Paq's on the juice. If he wasn't he'd agree to the testing and the fight would be on. All these "superstitious" excuses are bullshit.

Pac will do random piss tests whenever, and will do a blood draw immediately after the fight. There is no reason why blood has to be drawn 2 days before the fight instead of immediately after. Every boxing expert/trainer I've seen voice their opinion on this has the exact same take: Mayweather is putting up roadblocks to get out of the fight.

Mayweather is insisting on a testing scheme that is unprecedented and one that no boxing officials are calling for. If this fight doesn't go through, the general public will remember it as him bitching out of the fight.

this fight will still happen. There's WAY too much money for it NOT to happen. hell, if I were mayweather, I wouldn't mind risking my perfect record for $20-$30 million. All the stuff they're both doing right now is pre-fight hype in order to create more buildup (I'm thinking this fight will be off/on again at least another 2 times before the actual match) I say they'll fight sometime in late summer/early fall. March 13 would've been too fast anyways.

It's not the juice, it could be a matter of blood doping. The only way to detect it would be to test immediately before the fight.

And a fear of needles or whatnot is just silly. Look at his tattoos! I've been rooting for Manny for years, and I agree that it's mostly a Mayweather ploy, but you can't deny a sliver of doubt now.

He did agree to testing via the form sanctioned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which is the organization that is sanctioning the fight. I don't understand why people keep insisting that Manny is refusing testing. He is not. There is nothing that they will catch two days before the fight that they won't catch with a blood draw immediately after the fight.
