Wow....

"Car-building legend Boyd Coddington, whose testosterone-injected cable TV reality show "American Hot Rod" introduced the nation to the West Coast hot rod guru, has died. He was 63.

Coddington died at Whittier's Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday. Coddington's La Habra office spokeswoman Amanda Curry wouldn't disclose the cause of death."

OH MY.

It's a Sad Day in Muscle Car History.

RIP Boyd. You made some of the TIGHTEST Rides this side of the Mississippi.

He built cool cars, but I'm not surprised. Did anyone ever watch the show? They must have measured that dude's blood pressure in PSI because he was so worked up/pissed off all the time!

Sad news to the hot rod world. I remember his name was mentioned a lot during my young days...1985 or so...along with Roy Brizio's name, but it seems like Boyd made it mainstream big. :rose

wow. that is a total shock. any update to the cause of death??

I know he had an operation in jan. The show portrayed him as a total ass. I've heard from people who worked for him that he was an ass. Not as big an ass as that Duane dude. I hope Duane is out of a job.

I wonder if 1st wife and 2nd wife will get into a legal free for all over the estate.

Wow, I didn't know he did ZZ-top's car. I remeber staring at the cover of my dad's copy of Eliminator and thinking "cool car"

I will be honest, i thought he was a dick. Still a bummer he is gone. He made some really nice cars.

Sad that he died. But from watching his show I thought he ran the shop like a douche.

+1 He ran off his best shop guys.

Straight to his arch nemesis too, Foose (who's cars looks much nicer IMO).

Still sad to see Boyd's legacy come to an end.

Foose is part of boyd's legacy. i believe foose did the actual deisgn of several of coddingtons most famous cars.

the legacy will also live on with "hotrods" that you can't look at without a #10 welding lense on cuz all the polished billet parts blind you. no doubt the man had a huge impact on the hot rod/custom scene while alive, but his legacy is far from over.

Did any of you guys watch the show? He was a HUGE prick to his employees.....i bet they are secretly celebrating his demise.

And seriously his cars were crap. Orange County Choppers piece together from a Summit racing catalog kind of crap. Nothing original from him. Foose has him beat on originality and style.

And Chip Foose is a nice dude.

editing might have had something to do with it, but i dont' really care.

i do have the opinion of a fried that has seen in person many of the cars they crank out "in only 13 miutes" or whatever time crunch they are on have obviously cut corners. Same for Foose, especially the overhaulin cars. paint jobs tend to suffer the most. they are mostly glorified kit cars, they jsut started with a rusty kit in some cases

Thats what happens when your a fat slob....

Foose rules!!!!!

Overhaulin had nothing to do with his real creations.....

I wish they would overhaul my 68 Cuda fastback

I don't know. I didn't see anything really extravagant coming out of boyd's shop and the show really annoyed me. Duane was a complete jerk that really had NO skills, not even management. That probably didn't help Boyd's stress levels in the least.

Either way you look at it, even though I didn't really care for the work that came out of his shop that doesn't mean the community isn't loosing a legend even if he was a legend in his own mind :twofinger

:rip
