Hey guys, I have an 07 r6 and I've notice that the rear brake fluid when I first bought the bike was pretty dark blue. I didn't think much of it because when I test rode it, the brakes work fine plus it was the original owner that doesn't seem to have rode it much.

Any ways, I took her home and did a flush on it, a few weeks later now I notice that its starting to turn light blue again. I'm just curious have anyone experience this before? Should I flush it out again! The brakes seems to work ok I think, but I feel like it does take a bit more pressure to brake now or maybe it's my head. Haha. I also don't usually use the rear brakes on a daily basis, only during hard braking or at a start of a hill.

Sounds like the previous owner had ATE Racing Blue in there.

He probably had blue brake fluid.

Winner winner chicken dinner.

Expensive stuff considering the price of other brake fluids.

No issues if it looked like this:

Another bleed should take care of most of the residual blueness if it bothers you.

Edit: looks like Hooli beat me to the punch. That's what I get for opening half of the "new posts" page before reading through each one :laughing

I tried to search around about this first and I saw this blue brake fluid too. But I thought to myself that why would he only have that type of fluid in the rear brakes and not the front? Plus, I bought the bike with 4,8xx miles on it, the front brake fluid seems like he hasn't changed it since he got the bike from the dealer.

But it doesn't bother me really, I just wanted to get confirmation or just want to find out what might cause this to happen.

It was common practice for us to alternate between blue and yellow ATE brake fluid when we bled our systems after each track day. That way we knew that the system was completely flushed. Blue-Yellow-Blue-etc. you get the picture. We also bled the brakes after each track session.

This. I think it's the only reason the yellow ATE even exists. At any rate, I've never heard of brake fluid changing hue. If you want to be sure, flush it out with your choice of non-blue brake fluid, and keep an eye on it.

The dye from the blue stuff can still leech into your system from rubber parts even after you flush it out with new non blue fluid.

ATE actually comes in light and dark blue flavors for that reason specifically.

I've had brake fluid change color but it was used in the clutch system of an aprilia.

change from clear to black/blue. it was due to the seal material.
