Galaxy S23U The top half of the screen works. It seems to vibrate when I try to enter my code. Fingerprint does not work. It's not trying facial recognition.

I need to get some recent photos and my contacts. Is that possible?

I've tried connecting a USB hub with HDMI and monitor, mouse, and keyboard. Those things don't work (they worked on a colleagues S26).

Verizon.com had an olive green Motorola Edge 2026 on their website marked down from $529 to $239, so I was just going to buy that.

3 hours waiting in the Verizon store and it took 5 minutes for the guy to say he can't help me with my phone, and then said the Edge 2026 would be $529. I showed him their website on one of their display phones and he just shrugged and said nothing he can do...

I thought I could buy it online, but here's the deal. Some promos are online only, and some are only with certain (ultimate extra uber) plans...

I've been getting screwed by Verizon for 26 years. I was one of their earliest customers. There are no deals for me other than the newest fold or flip phone. I do not want a bendy screen.

I need a phone because everything is MFA and I can't do shit now.
 
can you take the phone to one of those repair places and have the screen replaced?
 
Have read terrible reviews about the flippy/folding phones. Want one but have been deterred by the negative comments.

I'm a Verizon customer. The signal is just better. Own a Mint phone as backup. My 'stuff' is tranfered via Google/Android so I can retrieve. Mint costs me less than $200/year and I can temporarily port the Verizon phone to it and either run dual NAMs or just the one # until I buy another phone. Mint uses T-Moblie towers.

I'd just go Mint but...signal. I know, I know, YMMV, those of you that are reading this. In dense metropolitan areas, maybe T-Mobile is as good. Not my experience in rural areas and/or across the nation.

You can buy a phone from a kiosk that sells compatible unlocked phones. Costco used to sell unbranded but believe they've stopped. Go to Wal-Mart, buy a compatible phone and don't use the service. Just make sure it is Verizon compatible.
 
I’ve had Verizon for years and found their customer service good. Sounds like you got a dud at the store. Call their customer service, renegotiate get your phone and be grateful for the signal. :dunno
Then again, I’ve been checking out google phones.
 
i use visible for my phone service. visible uses verizon towers. visible costs me $15 per month for unlimited data.

1. The Phone Needs a Hard Reboot (Highly Likely)​

When a phone screen gets crushed, the digitizer (the touch layer) often short-circuits or goes into a frenzied "ghost touch" panic loop. This freezes the phone's internal USB/accessory controller. Even though it's vibrating, the phone's software is essentially deadlocked and won't handshake with the USB hub.

Because you can't see the power menu, force a hardware reset:

  1. Unplug the USB hub entirely.
  2. Press and hold both the Power Button and the Volume Down Button at the exact same time.
  3. Hold them down for a full 10 to 15 seconds. Do not let go when it vibrates. Keep holding until you feel a distinct secondary vibration or the top half of the screen briefly flashes black and restarts.
  4. Once it reboots, let it sit for a minute to boot up to the main lock screen.
  5. Plug the USB hub back in.

2. The Hub is Underpowered for an S23 Ultra​

The S23 Ultra draws significantly more power to push video out to an external display compared to other models. If the hub you are using doesn't have an active power source plugged into it, the S23 Ultra's battery might be refusing to deliver enough juice to power the HDMI chip, the mouse, and the keyboard all at once.

  • Look at the USB-C hub. Does it have a USB-C Power Delivery (PD) port on the side?
  • If yes, plug the phone's wall charger directly into the hub, and then plug the hub into the phone. Giving the hub wall power usually forces the S23 Ultra to instantly recognize the external monitor and peripherals.

3. Alternative Trick: Bypass the Monitor (Since the Top Screen Works!)​

Since the top half of the screen still works, you might not even need the monitor. You just need to bypass the broken bottom touch sensors.

Instead of using the big hub with HDMI, try a simple USB-C to USB-A adapter (the tiny little dongle that usually comes in the box with a new phone).

  1. Plug the single adapter directly into the phone.
  2. Plug a standard wired USB mouse directly into it.
  3. Look at the top half of the screen. If you click the mouse or move it around, do you see a little mouse cursor appear in the working top half?
  4. If the cursor appears, you can use the mouse to drag the lock screen up from the bottom, blindly click the numbers for the PIN, and unlock the device. Once unlocked, you can use a computer to pull the data using Smart Switch.

I can't get it to work. Seems that once the phone was reset or is locked, it turns off the USB port until it's unlocked. It's for security!

Well, I finally guessed where the numbers were and entered my code to unlock the phone, so now I have KB, mouse and monitor working.
 
I was going to say the new Android OS locked fileshare USB behind a permission and you have to manually enable it each time you hook up the USB cable to your PC or at least my phone does it.

The first screen/frame set - the power button did not work! I got a second in different color because AI said the color had to match. I accidentally ordered the silver one the first time. But that was BS. I couldn't imagine why it wouldn't work. The second didn't work either, so I had to investigate...

Behold, the reason the buttons did not work is because they stupidly left the anodizing on the ground pad. Morons!
