broke my clavicle thill east turn 4 saturday the 9th of september 2017.

It was a clean break and i was released from the Chico Enloe ER quickly with just a sling and some painkillers.

I have an appointment with palo alto orthopedic surgeon on wed 9/13 to decide what to do with it.

I'm hoping for surgery so that the "recovery" period is smoother and i don't have to worry about poor healing or complications.

Glad you're doing ok. I was out there Saturday too and was hoping nothing too serious happened when the chopper showed up.

Bummer!!! Hope you have a quick and easy recovery either way.

Although the real question is - how's the bike?

Rough but repairable!

Ouch- for both you and the bike! Hope you're not hurting too much. My surgery is weds and just found out that is going to cost me about $5k. I have a 20% surgery co pay and haven't spent anything toward my deductible or maximum out of pocket this year.

Hope your coverage is better than mine and hope you have a quick recovery.

ortho surgeon says this was not a clean break. lol. there is some sharding and the bone would likely never heal without intervention.

Surgery scheduled for Tuesday unless they need to move me up to this weekend.

Well I can tell you my shoulder feels WAY more solid now that the plate is in there. I seem to have alot of numbness on the skin (still cant feel the ice pack 9.5hrs after surgery, and I'm not in too much pain at all. So far I'm please with getting the surgery. Hope youre not feeling too bad, and good call on getting a second opinion. I sent my xray out for a second opinion too. They both said surgery was needed.

I was pretty nervous about getting the surgery because I'd never had surgery before but I was out like a light before I knew what was happening and woke up groggy but mentally alert feeling no pain. Hopefully tomorrow will be good too. Really hoping I'll be able to sleep better because I've had terrible sleep since mine broke and its catching up with me. Good luck to you! :thumbup

Got mine done today. Lol hurts more than before surgery but less than when I broke my leg. Waiting for pain meds to stabilize.

They gave me a nice big bandaid.

Excuse the maniacal smile, I was laughing at how big the bandaid was as it was my first time seeing it today.

Looks identical to the one I have! Congrats on getting past the surgery, and I hope the pain meds have kicked in and that your recovery is quick and easy.

I'm a week out from my surgery this morning, I'm off all pain meds but I have a lot of numbness that I'm bummed about. Are you having any of that? Also I'm probably out of the sling a little more than I should be but I can only stand that thing for so long before I go nuts. Probably because I'm a lefty and I need that hand.

Best of luck through your recovery! Anything happen with your bike yet? What happened, did you lose the rear end and high side?

Welcome to the club. And don't forget to carry a medical note when you go through airport TSA checkpoints.

I flew internationally with my leg, and then a domestic flight, and have done quite a few flights since I had my arm plated in 2012 - I've never had an issue....I've heard this from someone else, but have yet to encounter an issue.

I have never had issues with my titanium knee either. But I plan on having the clavicle hardware removed next year.

Had my first session of PT today.

Went well. Mostly mobility/range of motion and preventing more muscle atrophy exercises.

Had one week checkup on monday and was cleared for "no sling" at home, but not public.

Still having a good bit of pain here and there but trying to reduce the narcotic painkillers while also removing the sling and adding more movement is probably not helping.

Another checkup next week and xrays in about a month.

Well shit Jay. Bike does look rough.

Glad you are headed to PT now. I broke mine a million years ago and there was no PT. What kind of exercises are you doing.??

Sorry about the pain. I'd be interested in the exercises you're doing too. Hope things heal up fast!

I never got PT when I broke my knee when I was 21, I recovered well enough eventually. I have a permanent limp and arthritis, probably just because of the accident. I couldn't afford PT back then and insurance ran out my first day in the hospital. So I have this lingering regret that PT could have helped some but probably not.

For now just pendulum shoulder exercises, neck stretches, wrist movements, and no weight curls.

I got a good bit of mobility and muscle loss so trying to minimize and recover.

Got my bandage removed today.

Scar is healing up really well, its a biggun, but won't be big and nasty like my leg scar (which is from a compound break).

PT is going well, and when i feel stiff or sore i do my PT exercises and Ice my shoulder and feel better immediately.

Some muscles, particularly my shoulder muscles are getting real tight and sore from time to time, and sleeping i wake up real sore. But i'm mostly just on ibuprofen a few times a day, though today was a tough morning and i needed a bit of help with the pain.

Getting some mobility back, almost able to lift my arm 90 degrees to the front.
