Broken Clavicle 9/9/2017

Good to hear you are healing up! Good call staying ahead of the pain. How was your skin under the bandage? Mine was unhappy with whatever adhesive they use and getting that stuff off was a pain. Good luck as you heal up!

Bandage came off easily and skin seems ok. Less sticky and messy than all the stinkin probes they stick on you when they fly you to the hospital. lol

Most of my pain comes from muscles tightening up/cramping or just getting sore from weird body position/posture to compensate for the injury.

Sorry Jay that’s a drag. I’m going to stop complaining about my numbness. Hope you’re feeling better ASAP.

Haha well i would be concerned too about numbness, to be fair.

Everyone i've talked to has somehow managed much less pain and far more mobility. Makes me think i'm being a wimp. :rofl:laughing but the doc is satisfied with my progress and its getting a lot better so that is reassuring enough for me to keep my spirits up. :thumbup

Sounds like you're doing fine, do what your PT says and stick to it.

You're less than a month into this since you broke it, give it a few more weeks before you give it too much judgement :)

1 month out from surgery, now.

I have over 90% mobility, back. Taking ~800mg of ibuprofen a day to keep some muscle soreness and swelling at bay.

Still not weight bearing. Find out in about 2 weeks with xrays if i can become weight bearing. Longest wait ever.

Numbness on the skin around surgical site. Doc says thats because they couldn't make an incision without cutting nerves. Numbness should go away when nerves heal in about 3~ months. Feels weird, but no big deal.

Scar is healing well. gonna be a long, but cute/subtle one. Not wide and jagged like my knee.

Having to slow myself down.... feeling too good, with low pain and high mobility, still not allowed to lift things and that is really hard considering i'm left handed, have a 1yr old toddler and my mind/body wants to resume normal operation with the left side.

Since you're left handed, that'll help speed up your recovery once you can use it more

Good to hear things are progressing well overall though!

Sounds like good progress!

Damn timing sux didnt know you had a 1yr old as well during this, get well soon!

Had 6wk and xrays today. Doc says i'm "fully healed". No weight or activity restrictions** so i will be back in the gym and riding tomorrow!!

** (except high impact sports - skiing, mountain biking, skateboarding - i have to wait 6 more weeks - good thing i don't do any of those things!)

Excellent news! :thumbup

Skydiving is only high impact when you mess up!

Great news!

Ooooh, extra TSA scrutiny if you are flying

I’ve gone through the state building metal detectors in Oakland twice since mine got plated and it didn’t set anything off. I wonder if TSA will be different.

Yours looks like it’s more on the front of the bone whereas mine is more on the top. I think we got the same number of screws. Glad you’re feeling better!

TSA is fine - I went through with both plates and all the screws on my leg, and have had a plate in my arm since 2012, never has caused an issue.

My shoes setting it off, however, have even when they told me to leave them on....

I'm not sure what the TSA buzz is all about. I've got a plated neck since 2012 and been on at least 20 flights and I've never set it off.

Looks like they did a pretty good job fixing that, Jay. Glad to hear you're off restriction.

Scott
