Broken off ignition, junk or fix?

Broken GSXR
Someone tried to steal my bike awhile back and broke off the ignition. Anyone know how hard this is to fix? (Photo below).

Since I'm in the process of moving I'm trying to figure out if it's worth pushing my bike 1/2 mile to my new house and getting it repaired or just calling someone up to junk/scrap the bike and buy something new now that I have a proper garage to store the bike in.

Bike is a 2001 GSXR 750. Up until the attempted theft it was in good condition but it's been sitting for long enough it probably needs a full overhaul.

Thanks for your advice!

Getting new parts and installing them is pretty straight forward. Www.ronayers.com can give you an idea of worst case prices for the parts. Given you don't seem to be in any hurry, I would look for used parts

edit:
lock/key looks to be around ~$133
top triple (head, steering stem in suZuki speak) is ~$225

just for reference

also check yer pm, i might be able to help one way or another

You could just wire in a switch to the ignition and ride it without a key for now if you don't want to spend the money for parts.

Thats not a problem at all.. actually.. I'd repurpose the horn button and make it so you have to hold it down to start the bike. :)

When they took the lock I think they might have also broken/taken the wire for the ignition. I'd have to go take a closer look again to be sure. If that's gone then I assume it's a bigger repair to fix the wiring harness?

BAM. Hide a switch and leave the rest.

Genius.

The harness for the ignition cylinder is a sub-component. It goes from the cylinder where you put the key in down to a plug (usually under the tank somewhere, so it's not accessible without a tool/time investment which makes it impractical for a thief to try to get to), where it plugs in to the rest of the wiring harness. So you don't need to change the whole harness, just the part that is missing/damaged.

The harness for the ignition cylinder is a sub-component ....

Just to clarify (because I had to read it three times to understand what I think you meant):
It's not a sub-component of the Ignition Key-Switch - the Key-Switch comes complete with the harness that plugs into the Main Harness connector.
(but I think that's what you meant - it kinda reads like the switch and the switch-harness are separate parts)
i.e Buy a key-switch and plug it in.

You should be able to find replacement top-clamp on EBay - either OEM or an after-market replacement.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUZUKI-GSXR...Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c8a5b4ca0&vxp=mtr

You will need set of Security Torx bits if fitting OEM screws, or you can just fit regular socket-cap screws to bolt the key-switch to the clamp

Scrap it out for that? That's pretty minor repair.
If it's been parked up for a while, you might need to clean the carbs out.

The ignition switch is a really simple deal. You have three, maybe four circuits.

one of them is park,(just a tail light) acc(accessory)the other is on.. the last one is off; stuff can happen when the ignition is off so it's important to include it.

So that's it.. as the 'key turns' it contacts the acc first and then the ignition. The starter circuit is included in both acc and on.

And the cool part is there's one common hot wire that spans across both circuits and it's usually orange. Every other wire is everything else.. simple to recreate and combine.

Do you have a flashers button? That's a great push button ignition switch; then the horn button for a 'latch' so you have to press and hold the horn then the starter button to start.

Who needs high beams? Make that part of the ignition! :laughing

recycle! Be green!

A lot of racers bypass the key switch and I'm sure gsxr forum will have info on wire colors and procedure. Do that and have another switch under the back seat so you pop off the seat, turn the key, then crank up and ride. Would make thieves think "WTF how do I do this now"
